:?: Do you keep one ( or a couple more ) on you? You know: for good luck, happiness, safety, love...

photos are optional

I'm keeping a small jade cicada around my neck; a bit of luck on my end wouldn't hurt :D

Since the Filipino-Chinese community in Manila has started celebrating the Chinese New Year, many started inquiring about their Chinese Astrology signs, and what charms would help them through the year.

 Not only charms; palm reading, Feng Shui advices, anything related to luck comes to play too

( *On a lighter note: I love tikoy -- Chinese rice cakes prepared for the occasion -- white is the regular one while the brown ones -- which is made with brown sugar, is the special; there's an ube or sweet yam variant too* ) :D

I don't guess I have ever ate a real rice cake.

Rice cakes over here, are packaged in a long bag. The cakes are round and taste like cardboard. People that are on a diet, normally eat them. I guess dieters think they are good for you and I suppose they are very low in calories and no fat. Personally, I think eating cardboard would be less expensive and probably tastier.

So pray tell, what is a real rice cake exactly?

Oh, that rice cake -- one of my relatives sent a pack via balik-bayan box when I was in high school; a crispy one, if I can remember ( bland one too ) The closest thing that can be like that here is the local made Kropek ( rice crackers, often fish or shrimp flavored ) though much tastier :D

 Forgot to make the edit earlier -- tikoy is made of glutinous rice, or sticky rice. My bad, so sorry

( *scratches head* ) One can blame my school's strict curriculum; students must be fluent in both their native language -- Tagalog or Filipino, and in English ;) and that can't advance to the next year unless performance is above average

Many thanks, Valerie :D

Come to think of it... maybe that's why some students carry charms to school

( Hoping that one may pass the next school year, a lot of luck's needed  )
