I checked for updates and it's taking forever, just to do updates.
Updating iwork, safari, and something else.
Time left, keeps climbing...it's now at 71 hours!!!

it took me around 5 hours to get everything updated but trust me it will be worth it :)

I'm just eager to get my hands on the New MacBook Pro withe the Retina display, the cost of it is around £2 grand here

P.S.: By the way my one is a MacBook Air :)

I have the 27"iMac.

I've been thinking about getting the macbook pro but kept thinking I'd wait til they came out with a
new version or at least until after this mountain lion update. I'm not sure now if I will get one or not.
Seems every time I buy something, the next day they come up with something I'd rather have.

Technology, can't keep up with it!

Still, I can't believe how long this update is taking. I thought about canceling it and trying it again.
I guess they are just very busy with everyone doing the downloads.

Oh for heaven sakes! Now it says 82 hours. I'm going to cancel it and try again.

I did a stop and then start and it appears to be going a little faster.
This is what my update says:

iWork Update 9.2 adds support for the following features available on OS X Mountain Lion:

iCloud: Store documents in iCloud and keep them automatically up to date across your Mac, iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, and the web. Changes made to a document on one device automatically appear on all your other devices. Requires iWork for iOS 1.6.1 or later installed on iOS device.
Dictation: Speak words, numbers, or sentences and watch them appear in your presentation, document, or spreadsheet.
The iWork apps are also enhanced to take advantage of the Retina display on new Mac hardware so presentations, documents, and spreadsheets appear sharper and more vibrant.
This update is recommended for users of iWork 9.0 and later. For detailed information on this update and individual application changes, please visit this site:

It completed the updates. I think it must have been busy or I simply had a slow connection at that moment. Not sure but I suspect it is everyone doing updates.

Ok, now I am wondering what the point is of the mountain lion. I have the new safari, updates, etc. Seems I have most of what they mentioned in mountain lion.

It took mine 4 and a half hours to download. Then it took 30 minutes to install.
I'm presently looking at what's new.

@Valerie and Tuberlance84,

I just installed Mountain Lion a few minutes back and I went ahead to try the Dictation feature. And all of a sudden, my internal mic is not working :(
Tried insterting an external mic which works. Looks like I need to take my MacBook Pro to a service center.
The mic was working perfectly on Lion but not on Mountain Lion.

Just want to know if its just me or are you two also having this issue?

I have not tried the dictation yet but will in awhile after I get woke up.
With that said, I did read thru many of the reviews and have not read anyone having a problem with it.

Seems like a bad co-incidence then. I purchased an extended warranty on July 10th so I don't have to pay anything for the repairs :)

I haven't checked out everything but on the whole it doesn't look much interesting to me. Mostly I see is that they've iOSified OSX.

I am still searching for Facebook integrated on Mountain Lion. Can't find it.

Edit : Did a Google search and found that Facebook integration will be available in the next update in Fall.

Yes I read about the facebook integration not available right now.

I have not looked over everything yet. You know the thing about me and MAC, I don't utilize half of what is on it.
Yet it seems, as soon as you want something, you don't have it.
Plus, I've never taken the time out to even discover how everything works or what everything is.

I'm not sure what that side bar column is that it displays in the video images at apple for this upgrade.
It's not displaying on mine. Maybe I have to click something to drop it down.

Also, I have never set up my mac email system. I have not figured out a reason to do so. Why would I want a
bunch of email flying in on my computer when I can keep gmail open in a tab, 24/7?

Personally, I think this update should have been free. I mean my gosh, we just paid for an upgrade a few months ago for Lion and I think everyone that upgraded to Lion, should have had this upgrade free.

I just wonder now if the coupon printer thingie will work now. I have not been able to print out coupons since I did the Lion upgrade. Also, my wireless printer some times works, and some times does not. Here again, that became an issue with the Lion upgrade.

The 'Notes' and the 'Reminders', I doubt I will ever use those either.

The main thing for me about doing the upgrade is, it seems that as time moves forward, other things come out that want you to have those upgrades. Also if you don't do the upgrades, when they come out with another, you may have to stop and do the previous before you can do the recent.

It's a catch 22.

Here is another issue. Parallels 7 is not working anymore. But, there is a solution on their website. Just download the latest version and install it and it will work : KB Parallels

I see Software Update has been merged into the MacApp store which is pretty cool. Makes things easier.

For those who love to backups here is something important for you.
Download Mountain Lion but don't install it immediately. Go to the Application folder and find the Install Mac OS X Mountain Lion.app icon. Right click it and click "Show Package Contents".
Then click on the folder named "SharedSupport". Inside that you will find 2 files - InstallESD.dmg and OSInstall.mpkg

Copy InstallESD.dmg and save it to your hard drive for future use so that you don't have to download the entire 4.34 GB file in case you need to re-install the OS in future.
If you want you can burn it to a Disc too. Mountain Lion won't install on a single-layer DVD so you need a dual-layer DVD.

Here is a step-by-step method how to burn it to a disc or prepare a bootable external USB drive capable of installing OS X 10.8 : Egg Freckles | Installing Mountain Lion Clean

Let me give you a little hint in case you have multiple Macs but don't want to purchase the OS several times.
My sister too has a MacBook and she had around $65 iTunes credit while I had a mere $0.06
She too wanted to purchase Mountain Lion so she downloaded it through her Apple ID. And once it was finished, I copied the InstallESD.dmg to my Mac and installed it.
So we got Mountain Lions on each of our Macs but paid for just one :)
And before anyone says anything, let me tell you that it is legal. I am not sure but you can install Mac apps on I think 3 computers (or maybe 5).
As far as iOS apps go, you can install the app you have paid for on 5 different devices.

I have to agree Valerie. Its just a cover up from Apple. Nothing much has changed and its feels like I have been ripped off $20.
Apart from Notes, I am not going to use any of the new stuff they added.

Also I had high expectations from the Notification Center and thought that it would be a replacement to Growl. But, what do I see here.... Only alerts from Calendar, Facetime, Game Center, Mail, Messages, Reminder and Safari will be shown in the Notification Center :|

The only useful stuff added is Dictation which resembles Siri. But, I still have to test it if it recognizes my voice else it too will be useless.

I'm getting ready to test the printer and coupon printer. Those coupon sites out there make ya download their printer software. Which is a crock of dog do. Also my dsl guy was out here today and told me there was an issue down the road at the connector. Something about the remote. I've been noticing more and more static on my landline and dsl going off and on frequently. Could be my printer will work correctly now. I'm going to reboot everything and see.

Also, I am pretty sure you are correct about doing the upgrades on many devices. Some people have a lot of apple products. I only have this imac and I have an apple 4th generation iPod.

The dictation.....oh it appears to be a joke. I started to try it for composing an email and it says, it sends your message to apple to convert it to text and takes your contacts too!

I tell ya, as time continues, you just wait and see if you have any privacy at all left! Privacy will soon be a thing of the past.

In addition, I am considering the apple tv and thought this upgrade would be good for it. I've got to read more about it before I decide to purchase.
