Ten Pound Bag of Pancake Mix and Beans

Locked

#1 by valerie » Wed Aug 15, 2012 16:41

Ok so I never was much of a pancake fan. That is until I started using Krusteaz pancake mix (just add water).

I like it so much, I bought a ten pound bag of it.

A ten pound bag of Krusteaz pancake mix, makes 270 pancakes (that's what it says on the bag).
The ten pound bag cost seven dollars and some odd cents, but I'll just say $8.

The bag of pancake mix, does not state the size of the 270 pancakes. So for cheapo sake, lets say
we make our pancakes about one third smaller, netting 365 pancakes which of course would mean,
we can eat one pancake a day, for 365 days.

That means, a 10 pound bag of Krusteaz complete pancake mix for $8 will last us one year.

Now lets see what our pancake mix has in it:

-Flour
-Wheat
-Oil
-Milk and Buttermilk
-Other stuff like niacin

As long as we have water, we can make pancakes and we can stay alive....for an entire year for $8.

Just for the record, once we open our ten pound bag of pancake mix, we can pour it in air tight jars.
That way, it will stay good and fresh while we consume it for a year.

But....we do need meat....don't we?

Beans.

It's rather difficult for a dry bean to go bad. It will over time, lose it's nutrients but still eatable.
Beans are rather inexpensive. The beans cost more than pancake mix....which I find a little odd.
The good news is, there are all kinds of beans so in reality, we never need to get tired of eating beans.
There is white beans, small white beans, large white beans, red beans, pinto beans, green beans,
lentils, peas, and the list goes on and on.

If you were to eat beans every day, it might cost you about $0.25 cents per day, which is approximately
$90 per year.

Therefore, from my self study and my conclusion, you can take a $100 bill, and eat for the entire year,
and be just as healthy as the next person, if not healthier.

This has been a 'Valerie Savings Moment'.

PS. Splurge a little and buy some syrup.

One problem with your self study. You need a certain amount of calories per day, before your body would start breaking down muscle tissue. So yeah you could survive. But your health would suck. And before you bring up pioneers survived on biscuits & beans. They also had dairy such as butter & milk to provide some fat in there diets. This why they coojed with lard.

Pancakes have calories. Plus, they contain milk, buttermilk, and other stuff.

Beans also have calories.

Neither would be empty calories since both have nutrition, vitamins, etc.

However, I did not say one would be healthy, just alive.

Milk is in the pancake mix already. Not that you see it, but it's there.

That's not enough calcium for a daily diet. Even MRE's are more nutritionally balanced, all be it they taste like crap. And eating package's every day cause I have when I was raising my sisters kid & that's all she'd eat in the morning. Eventually they begin to taste like cardboard lol.

True MRE's with cheese can be used as cement, because that's how they sit in your stomach. See multi purpose lmao.

 I'd love to go through your stores someday, valerie -- they don't sell pancake mixes here by the pound; it's often sold in boxes good for, say, 6-8 medium sized ones

I'd love to eat pancakes all the time ( plain or with anything sweet ) -- as long it's not eating oatmeal for days end ( tried it before, since a friend of mine said you could lose weight by just eating nothing but oatmeal for a week -- no milk or sugar -- just plain oatmeal )

I gave up eating it on day three...

Mmmmmm. oatmeal, I am crazy for oatmeal sometimes as a snack I take a spoon and scoop from the bag and eat the stuff raw............(crazy I know! ) :D

BTW, you don't lose weight from just eating oatmeal, you lose weight from a calorie deficit. An oatmeal ONLY diet is not exactly too healthy either, as you are not getting all your vitamins and minerals needed, and too much of a good thing isn't good either, oatmeal while a single portion is fairly low in net carbs, eating only that all day is not exactly too good.....you could be eating only pickles or only anchovies and lose weight, why ? calorie deficit. Also oatmeal is fiber, keeps you full ! Also you can eat oatmeal all day, if that energy does not get used it gets stored as fat and makes you fat........if you burn off more calories than you take in you will lose weight no matter what...... I could go on a "Valerie's Pancake Mix" diet and lose weight if I wanted to as long as the calories expended exceed those coming in, mind you, it would not be a healthy way to lose weight, same as those bacon only, cheese steaks only diet ! lol.

Well if it were 20 years ago I'd accept your challenge - When I was younger I had a crazy metabolism, I could eat anything and stay slim. I remember taking part in several food competitions, and I recall pancakes, I could down easily, 20-30 of them. There is no way that this would last me 1 year lol would be lucky if it lasted me a week or half a week at most.... Right now if I did that, it would be suicide unless someone invents 0 carbs pancakes :P

I don't care a lot for oats but I do like them every now and then. There is no way I could eat them without
butter and brown sugar. I buy the quaker oats quick oats. Also I buy the 'walmart brand' single packs of maple
brown sugar instant.

If you are not exercising in some way, many hours per day, it can be very difficult to lose weight properly.
When I say exercising many hours per day, I mean simply 'moving your body in some physical ways'.

I use to manage a ladie's gym.

You don't have to go to a gym and work out with machines. However, you do need to be physically moving.
In fact, I will let you in on something to those that may not know, exercising and weight lifting, can make it
more difficult to lose weight as you age, if you give up doing what you use to do. This is the very reason why
many people have a slow metabolism when they age, it's normal for many but also if you were very active in
your younger years, then stop the activity, you'll find it much more difficult to lose weight.....especially if you
were exercising heavily when you were younger.

You have to do something different rather consistently, in order to lose weight. I'll give you an example that
I can relate to so that I can relay what I mean. When I worked for years in the hospital, I was doing something
different every day/night. For example, one night at work I might find myself running up and down the hallways,
much more than the next night. The next night, I might be physically picking up people out of the floor. The
next night, I might working in long term care, lifting/turning/ people. In other words, it's a lot of activity but
it's never exactly the same activity....and that is exactly what you want.

If you're primarily at home, like I am, you want to still make sure your routine switches up consistently.
If you like to walk every day, that is fine. But if that is all you are doing is walking every day, at some
point you may find you are not losing the amount of weight you want, you'll come to a stand still. So it's
best that you walk every other day for a few weeks while doing some floor exercises the other days, then
after a few weeks, try jumping rope every other day, while working in the garden the other days. Whatever
type of physical activity you are doing, try to do it at least 30 minutes at a time.

There's nothing wrong with eating sugar or even greasy foods. You just want to limit that intake and not
over indulge. The same goes with food, as it does physical activity. Eat different foods. If you eat eggs
every morning, stop. Instead, eat eggs one day, toast the next day, oats the next day, grits the next day,
and so on.

One of the main problems with people is they don't drink enough water. If you don't like water, dress it
up and eventually you will get the hang of drinking it. Place a lemon in it. Spike it with a lime. Whatever
but drink lots of water. Water will keep your colon healthy, keep your skin healthy, keep all your innards
clean and working. Our bodies need lots of water. Also, water is filling. Before you sit down to a meal,
drink a glass of water.

Use smaller utensils. In America, we tend to use huge plates, huge bowls, and eat like there is no tomorrow.
Instead, use smaller plates, smaller bowls, and larger glasses. This will help in regards to portion control.
