The "can I do this with my referral link?" thread

Hi everyone. I figured I may as well turn this into a thread about referral links instead of just making a new thread for every new "weird" idea I get for advertising my referral link. So each time I get a new idea I will ask here. :)

I occasionally sell things on Ebay. I got the idea of including perhaps a business card with either my website that has my referral links on it or just a piece of paper talking about ClixSense with my referral link on it. My question is as the topic title says, can I do this? Will I get it any kind of trouble if I include my affiliate link in packages of items I sell on Ebay?

Good thread! I'm sure there's many of us thinking of different ways to advertise and someone's "weird" could become someone else's wonderful!

Well, you can't place a referral link on your Ebay listing. I don't see the harm of including a business card with your website address in the parcel, as a business card is more professional. The buyer will either be curious to look at your website, or not.

I would tread very cautiously with that piece of paper. It's more "in your face" and you can't know how the buyer will react. You're not anonymous, so if the buyer is offended by advertising that bears no relevance to the purchase, he/she might report you to Ebay and your status as a seller will be affected.

However, the piece of paper is still a good idea. You could make up leaflets, pass them around to family, friends, work colleagues, etc, post them through letter boxes.

Good luck with whatever you do!

Thanks for your reply. I think its a good idea I was just concerned if there are any rules that say you can't include a business card in your packages and if there is I wouldn't know what I would be looking for in those terms of services.

Sounds like a good idea! You can promote Clixsense both offline and online. (just don't send email spam) You could also consider including your business card in your outgoing mail, bills etc. :)

I've been thinking of selling some stuff on Ebay for a long time. This query gave me the push to read through the policies, user agreements, terms and so on. It's all rather mind boggling. Maybe I won't sell, after all! I couldn't really find anything that related to what you want to do, but that doesn't mean something isn't lurking amongst all that mass of information.

What you could try, is to post a query on the discussion forum. There's bound to be other Ebay users who can tell you if this is ok.

Really? There is no law or anything that prohibits doing that?

Thats the problem. Terms of use print is extremely long and detailed often and its some times almost impossible to find what you are looking for. Its hard to really know if its Ok to send business cards because you can never find the sections that say you can or can't.
