Need help selling a desktop computer online

Locked

#1 by casey86 » Mon Jan 07, 2013 17:27

I want to sell a desktop computer on Ebay and I figured that if I offer to ship it world wide I could increase my bids on it. The thing is I have never shipped something this big or heavy world wide before. I just wanted to ask about shipping an item like this world wide. What would be the best shipping company to use? UPS, USPS, FedEx? I also think just to be safe I should offer delivery confirmation, tracking and insurance. Is there anything else I should know?

I would ask this over on Ebay forums but their forums are down at the moment.

yes i know - from USA
what i mean is, fedex n ups will charge more for "over volume" plus "fuel surcharge" at receiver side
as you mention "something this big"
usps, through my local post office, will charge less expensive n zero "fuel surcharge"

I don't want to discourage you, but I think.. selling desktop online is not really good idea because u need to pay shipment, plus u need to make sure that desktop you are selling is installed with genuine Windows, aside from that desktop is spread all over the world. So I suggest instead of selling that through online, why not sell that there in your country... less expenses and less headache. :)

I agree with cutestlink. The safest way and easiest on your expenses would be to sell it locally in your area. I have heard too many stories with Ebay/PayPal screwing over sellers and allowing buyers to purchase and then ask back for a refund, ending up getting both their money and the product. Selling any high value product online, at least to me, is a very big risk. Go to a pawn shop or any computer shop dealer that trades, sells, and buys computers. I wanna sell my desktop too but it needs an internal clean-up before I can do that.

Easy way of selling your computer and
earn even more cash is to have a yard sale.

I'd agree with proadco -- perhaps a quick search off the Web may have results of places in your area/neighborhood that may sponsor yard sales, where you can join in ( like a flea market ); other options may be to check out electronic shops that may have need of spare parts, perhaps you can sell the desktop there
