Resetting my modem help please

Locked

#1 by Piddles » Tue Sep 24, 2013 08:44

The other night (I think it was Friday night) I had internet problems and Comcast told me I needed to reset my modem, by sticking a pin or paper clip in the small hole for 5 seconds, ok did that, everything is working fine now.

However, when I log into some of my bill pay sites, the sites are saying they do not recognize my log in and to put in the security answers to my security questions ect ect. I was ok with all that. But this has me wondering.... Now does :clixsense: think I logged in from another location, maybe my other online accounts think I have done the same?
I logged into my paypal account and everything was fine.

Also not sure if this has anything to do with resetting my modem, but now I get an error message while trying to view videos on some of the offers here on :clixsense: , but only if they are youtube videos, error message says.... error occurred please try again later. I went directly to youtube site to see if I can watch a random video there and I still get the same error message. Anyone that can help me on this I would greatly appreciate this.

I was getting ready to do an offer this morning and it said it did not take proxy users, well I am not on a proxy server and I double checked here . Advanced Proxy Check I also did not have my pop up blocker on.

So I am a little confused :? about it all and if anyone can give me some insight before I call Comcast I would be grateful.
Thanks in advance!
;)

Here is what it looks like while trying to view a youtube video here on :clixsense: and directly on youtube site

Doubt that be a Flash issue ( since YT runs on Flash these days, aside from the user's choice of media player ); I figure that kind of error message on YT when connections are low -- my guess would be with the provider's end

Perhaps two tries on this: let the modem rest for a few minutes after a reset -- say, reset then shut down -- then after 5-7mins, turn it back on and try again -- or seek assistance from the provider ( ComCast )

Try also to use IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS -- in Windows, press the Start or Windows logo at the bottom-left of the screen, then click on All Programs, then click on Accessories folder, then right-click the Command Prompt and use the Run as Administrator

Once the DOS window appears, type on the cursor prompt: IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS

*NOTE: There's a space in between the G and the /

Wait for the system to give the prompt confirmation message -- then close it

:( Well, I guess it's the provider's end then *scratches head* A service inquiry may get answers -- but it'l take a while, and I may say, a long while *sigh* ( and maybe try to see if the issue could be escalated should the connection may still act 'wonky' )

Your computer address has not changed per se. Everyone has a computer address.
Also you have an IP address.
IP addresses can change and in fact, my IP address changes frequently, some times
more than once a day!

When you reset your router, you probably did reset information going from the router
to your puter. I find it strange tho that comcast wouldn't inform you of that.

I think we'd all just be guessing if we told you what to try so the best thing to do is to
contact comcast, have them walk you thru making fixes. It doesn't sound like anything
severe to me. It just sounds like you have some settings that need to be reset and your
anti-virus might have something to do with not seeing the videos......just guessing!

Thanks Val, I hate Comcast, opps sorry.... I do not find it strange they didn't tell me, but that is just my experience with them, I was on the phone for over 3 hrs with them that night. Not sure about the anti-virus having anything to do with the videos since when I googled that error, there are many people getting the same error messages from youtube..

Nope no guessing, just wanted to have some input if anyone had this same experience maybe that is what I should have said.

Youtube works for me just fine.

However, I have to clear out my machine rather often or some times videos won't load
or simply don't appear.

I think I had comcast when I was in Florida. Whichever it was I had in Florida, I didn't
really like it. It was the same as the tv and I think it was comcast.

I get comcast and charter mixed up. I've had both in years past.

I don't think I had a choice either. I lived close to Daytona Beach at the time and I think it was
Comcast that had that area sewed up.

I don't have cable here. I have DISH for tv and a private company for my DSL.

Dear Tas
sometimes, here in Rome/Italy I have the same problem with videos on Yt ... "An error occurred, please try later ...The only thing I do in this case is to reload the page ... and by miracle the video works again !!!
It is because of a plug crashed, like Skockwave crashed or something like this ...
Just reload the page and the video works !!!
Good luck
