It all depends WHAT I want to capture.

If all what I want to do is capture a picture/image of the screen I would use the Print Screen (or PRT SC or Fn+PRT SC on some laptops) and then paste it under mspaint (Microsoft Paint) and save it as a JPEG.

If I want to capture a video session of either full or part of my screen to then post a video on youtube, etc I would use a freeware program called camstudio which captures video clips of your screen, very useful to create tutorials, etc.

Source of the info: I am a computer technician, I know all about software and anything that can be done on a computer.

.

In addition there is the Alt+PrintScreen/Fn+Alt+PrintScreen combination in case you need only to take a screenshot of a single window, not the whole screen.

For static images: I use PrintScreen / Alt+PrintScreen
For motion images I use the Video Recorder function from aTube Catcher

I use FastStone, which I downloaded from cnet.com and have registered the free version. The free version does everything I need it to do and is very easy to use.

For capturing video I have added the FireFox extension DownloadHelper which has some wonderful features, including a screen capture function.
