Actually, you both missed my point.

I'm just saying don't trust $randomdude for security advice.

You shouldn't trust the AV manufacturers either. How do you know their code isn't malicious itself? The link earlier in the thread even says "We can't prove they stole our code, because it's a secret, and we can't let you check it's okay". That's insane.

AFAIK, there's only Clam that lets you look at the code - and I wouldn't recommend Clam unless you're a mail server.

And you can't just move to Linux, because we rely on SELinux, which came from the NSA. Oh, but FreeBSD ported it too.

So, there isn't an uncompromised defence in existence.

And you can't trust me either - I'm a backendyweb generalist, not a security expert...

All I'm saying is for something that sits between you and all your private conversations, and all your money, and increasingly all your interaction with business and government, do your own research, don't rely on one thread on a GPT site.

Like every other security programs, Avast too had it's issues & been fixing them up with every periodical updates.
For a cleaner removal, they have an official uninstallation utility called avastclear, if the usual ways act up.

Comodo is good, but unfortunately had to discard it after it almost bogged down my system; it was also throttling the internet connection. It just didn't go well with here.

I didn't encounter any such troubles with using Avast all this time, but that doesn't mean, it'll be same for others.

As I had said earlier, every system is different and each machine responds differently to third-party softwares.
Which one suits best, can be find out only after using them first-hand.

I didn't find any such statements in that thread; on the contrary there was a clear evidence of the theft on page 7
in the excerpts of an user's own research results posted on IOBit forum which revalidates the indictment made by MBAM's. IOBit had deleted all the related posts in their forum regarding this discussion, somehow they missed that one.

That's where the emphasis has been, always best to examine on one's own.

Also nobody is a security expert here. The OP have posted a issue for which he sought help, and was replied based on the experiences of the respective members. Nothing more or less.
Any post anywhere can lead to a decisive outcome, if it's substantial. Doesn't matter if they are posted on a GPT forum or in a community for piccolo players.

As regarding to the selection of the AV, there is no one-size-fit-all solution in security softwares.
Just as mentioned by the above poster, you've to do your own testing which AV suits your computer.

If going for a Free AV, then there is Comodo, Avast, AVG, Avira & BitDefender among the top ones.

Whatever Antivirus prog. you install, supplement it with a Anti-Spyware like Malwarebytes or SuperAntiSpyware.
AVs are just not enough to mitigate all the threats lurking online.

There are no need to uninstall MSE . When you install a security program it turns MSE inactive . As long as MSE is inactive it usually causes no trouble , but can be turned back on if you decide to change security program with another 1 .
