Takes more than just removing the battery.

There's videos on Youtube that explains the steps to crack the Bios in order to change the password.

True enough - but if you're getting a laptop for $20, chances are you're going to have to open it up sooner or later anyway if you want to get any sort of lifespan out of it. Service manuals are usually available online

Have bought multiple laptops and desktops that neighbors and locals were selling as junk. Performed account and bios resets as well reformats and most of those items are still in use and perform quite nicely for different needs (development/testing on different systems, etc.). Another thing to note is if you aren't that tech savvy, a "worthless" working computer is the perfect equipment to practice and experiment with and not worry about screwing your good equipment up if you mess things up.

If you put DSL on a Pentium 3 and fire up the browser so they can't see busybox, the average user can be convinced it's a new machine.

The answer might be the free program callled Bios Cracker 5.0 . That might be what the video Proadco mentioned is about .

You really shouldn't do that on a laptop - the password will be stored on an EPROM, and it'll become unbootable.

Anyway, if you want to look, here is the source. It's surprisingly simple program actually - I knew it existed (because I use some of their other software), but had never read it until now. It's worth reading the doco (cmospwd.txt) if nothing else.

American made computer cost at least 3 times what Chinese stuff cost. You can still find them but not as easy as 30 years ago when bulk were made here. If it American made it be real old but real valuable if works. My USA-made Tandy from 1988 that cost $2000 than lasted until 2014. If get Chinese junk last 4-5 years you doing great.

I can get USA made computer as want it for $6000+. Custom-built Chinese same specs cost $1500-2000. I rather buy cheap Chinese but get new one every 18-24 months cheaper in long run.

Rod is not bragging . He just need an OPM ( other peoples money ) Corporation to pull it of . Open a market page where people can buy and sell used items . If they want to advertice they have to upgrade and pay a small fee . Then he can use the page to sell his own items like the other members of the page . Once he get into this line of trading business he will make more Green than he have ever seen , just like ME . He wrote he got an unused domain handy , this might be the perfect page to use it for creating .

The Sega System 16 had an OPM - that's the magic behind Golden Axe, Altered Beast, and all the classics.

I might have to learn Linux after reading all these negative articles on Windows 10 and how no way to stop them from sending our info to our evil government.

It's ironic really - I'm hearing lots of people jumping from Windows to Linux recently....just as a bunch of Linux people are jumping to BSD.

I'm still Linux - but only because BSD doesn't support my chipset.

@ hyldig

Got news for you.
I have many domains.
I know what to do with them.

Matter of fact - I'm in the domain business.

Funny, how so many online that has yet to discover the Internet.

I've seen countless of people swimming around like GoldFish in those traffic exchanges for hours
and doing nothing but cl cl cl cl cl cl cl cl cl cl

@ Jj

You can partition your hard drive and install Linux.

I'm still learning my way around.

One thing for sure. Ms can't do their 24 hour snooping no more like they do with you now.

Said the Gold fish to the old Shark . I am so sorry for defending you and saying you got a great idea that can bring you the huge profits you would like to earn so very much . Who are the rest of us to talk ? We are just the poor undereducated masses according to you ! Right ? This IS my world you are into . I am worth 250 000 $ I made on these kind of trades over the last 10 years . You clearly don`t want advice from someone who could help you make the profits you hunger so much to earn . Everyone clearly have to come kick my little as for trying to be nice to you . I am so sorry , it will never happen again !

Poor? I wouldn't know. I never ask anyone their personal business. This is the Internet where folks are online
to make money and should leave their personal life and problems at home and not bring the baggage to work.

Under educated? I wouldn't know, however I do observe the crazy and silly things people do and the non sense
comments they make.

I seen this one gal in a chat bragging how she has a college degree but was not working and she was peddling
free sub domain websites, pitching manual traffic exchanges under the illusion was going to strike gold off the backs of
newbies like her to sit for hours to cl cl cl cl cl cl cl cl cl cl cl cl cl cl cl cl cl cl cl cl cl cl cl cl cl cl as if credits was cash and all those newbies going to pile on and upgrade and spend hours on end to cl cl cl cl cl cl cl cl cl cl cl cl cl cl cl cl cl cl cl .

Hyldig, when I want to be nosy and get in your personal business to know what your worth, how much you
have made and all that stuff that is none of my business I will let you know. If you like, you can hold your breath
till I ask.

hyldig, you made your mistake bashing my post with your non sense comments when I were creating topics.

You got something to say, then you address the topic, not make it personal direct at me.

Other wise, when I want your opinion, I will give it to you.
