Hacker tried to scam me by phone today!

Locked

#1 by proadco » Mon Apr 04, 2016 16:52

An hour ago, I received a phone call from this gal. She was biglingual, was having a difficult time
trying to understand her, but there were so much background chatter with what sounded like
a dozen people doing the same as her.

In the very beginning, she identified herself being with Windows IT and was informing me that their
was a problem with my computer, that a hacker managed to gain access.

She attempted trying to get me to follow some steps to the computer and then set up a shareware
to find out what was going on with me my computer, that they were receiving warnings from my
computer and hacker activity.

I kept having her to repeat herself many times that I was having problems understanding her, that
I would call them back and to give me their phone number.

End result, they gave me a disconnected phone number.

FYI: Microsoft never calls window users to inform you that your computer is messed up or being hacked.

Just to follow up. I tried to call the number they gave. it was disconnected.

Then I google search for windows support number and ended up speaking with a windows partner
computer company.

This gal directed me to go to www.lmi1.com and that site didn't come up for me.

So, she told me to do Windows Key and press R , then the folder search pops up, then she told me
to type in www.support.me , that open a website page, where then, she gave me a 6 digit key number
of which would give them access to my computer.

Well, I went along, a file pop up, then you had to click Run to install the program, but my computer
stop the program from loading a file called Code.exe , there was no publisher certificate.

So, I told the gal. We have a problem. She told me to shut down the computer, wait two minutes, then
try again.

By this time in the conversation she told me they were a authorized windows partner company. I said,
I have a better Idea. I will keep searching for the windows support number. Then she offered to
give me the number. That microsoft hotline number is 1-800-642-7676

Then I called Microsoft and spoke a with a girl named Andy, I ended up speaking with the Sales department by accident from the computer voice prompt operator that didn't catch what I stated. But, Andy and I had a good conversation, she made a case file on what happen with the phone call I received.

If any of you get calling to be from Microsoft Windows IT. It's a scam.

we get those in the uk all the time, also constantly get phone calls from people 'calling me back about my accident claim' - i put on a random accent and have a bit of fun. just terror the head off them and p**s them off like they do you and if they pass you to a different person, change the voice you use.

they will give up before you do or youll start laughing and have to hang up

I seem to get the nasty scammers.

At the moment, I can't remember what the guy was trying to get me to buy
or what. He had an accent, like African or French or some such as that. I
finally had to hang up on him. Within minutes he called back and I could
hear laughter in the background. He said, 'your case of condom order is
on the way'. He hung up.

No matter what they thought, I still got the last laugh. After all, I make
money legitimately and I am not a low life scum bag that has to stoop to
idiotic ploys for a buck.

Although I'm on a no call list, I get calls like this all the time. Yesterday I received a 7:30 AM (!!!) phone call while I was still in bed. A recording informed me that I needed to call a number back immediately because the IRS was going to take me to court. We've been having a lot of these phony IRS calls in this area and it's been going on for months so apparently law enforcement is having a difficult time tracking them down. Possibly they're out of the country.

7:30 in the morning! I was so tired and this just infuriated me. And it's not like you can even yell at anyone, it's a recording. I have called the number back in the past and as soon as I start asking any questions, they hang up on me.

Have these people ever heard of getting a REAL job?

These scam phone calls rarely happens over here,Instead were getting a lot of scam sms's on our smartphones.

Yesterday i got the message,Your bank has noticed some unusally activity on your account,Please follow this link or your account will be closed and your money forfeit, Best regards from Danske bank  Come on "Best regards" are you f...... kidding me. Besides that my bank is Nordea

And today again sigh!! From Postnord "Your package has arrived,Please follow this link for tracking" Both url's ends with .apk and it will certainly try to install something nasty on your smartphone.

Yes!! we might laugh at this,But unfortunately many elder people fall for these fraud attempts as more and more of our society get's digitalized.

I've also had calls from scammers
"Quote"This is the IRS...Saying I owed taxes and if I didn't pay ,I would go to jail. The accent is difficult to understand, strained my ears. What's so funny..I don't owe taxes. Matter of fact I got a refund. I was one step ahead of this person and told him that the IRS never calls anyone to collect taxes and he would be reported to the FBI and others as a SCAMMER, Then I hung up
