THE PROBLEMS WE'VE ENCOUNTERED THIS PAST WEEK WITH OUR CABLE COMPANY
So as to not skew the poll, I have intentionally omitted the name of the company we use.

04/06/16:
I was having problems with internet going in and out all day and half the night. I lost a lot of work time as a result.

04/08/16: 9:40 AM
I have trouble with TV service. Some channels are pixelated and Video-on-Demand is not working. First I'm told the problems should be fixed by 11:15. Then 2:15. Then 7:15. Then 11:15. Now I'm told they HOPE to have service restored by 6:15 AM today.

04/09/16- 6:40 AM
Now I'm told to check back in 24 hours to see when services is restored. Now I'm expected to wait another 24 hours? This is two days without the service which I'm paying for.
I requested a credit for lost service, but I doubt that will happen.

Hope you have a better cable/internet service than I've been experiencing.

We are very lucky to have AAA service with our service provider.
They know they have to deliver because a few other top rated
providers stand ready to do the same also. 8-)

My cable company Mediacom has fast reliable internet, an excellent TV reception and I also get the landline with them. The problem isn't the quality of their products, it's the cost. The cost keeps inching up until it's virtually unaffordable. Then I have to cancel and start all over with another company which is offering a special deal so their tech has to come out and rewire things, etc. etc. It's such a hassle. I wish they offered a long term fixed rate contract. I took early retirement so my income does not significantly go up each year if at all. I always have to be vigilant and react when companies raise their rates. Sometimes calling in and threatening to cancel will help but not always.

I don't have cable. I have DISH and it seems every time I turn around, they raise the
price $5 and blame it on the government. I was paying over $103.00 a month and I
took the plunge and changed my package to the 'Smart Pack" and now pay $55.00 a
month.

Some times I think about canceling DISH altogether. I have Netflix and Amazon Prime.

Living in a rural area, I don't have any complaints about the services I have here as
the receptions are excellent. Rarely do I have a problem.....even in storms.

What I would really love to cancel is my landline. I hate paying $75.00 a month for
my telephone when I don't even use it. However, I have DSL and if I don't have the
landline, I don't have DSL. AND.....the reason I am even fortunate to have DSL out
here in no wheresville is due to a small high school a mile out down the road.

Is netflix and Amazon Prime worth the cost? I was also wondering about Hulu+. Thing I worry about is that I enjoy some of the programming on our local channels.

It depends on what you like to watch, Mike.

Netflix is the best. I heard that is going up a dollar or two. In regards to Netflix I have the
streaming ($7.99 per month) and one dvd out at a time blue ray ($9.99 per month). To me
it is worth it. If you like TV series shows, such as 'Walking Dead', 'Longmire', 'Justified', etc
Netflix has these series shows but stay one series behind. To me, it doesn't make any difference
if the program is a series behind, I still get to see it and if I want. Netflix streaming also has
a good variety of documentaries. Netflix has many original series.....that is programs that
they own and no one else has....most of them are not very good, I don't think but there are
several that I really like 'Orange is the New Black' as an example. Most of their movies on
streaming are lowly rated movies....like 1 to 3 star movies.....however, they do put some
pretty good movies on streaming just not every day. If you like the old classic movies and
shows....Netflix streaming has a good deal of them.....I am presently watching AndyGriffin
and then I am going to watch TwilightZone and I completed watching several other old
goodies such as the Munsters, some time back. I like watching those old series from episode
one and in order. If you like the new movies that come out, you really do save money by
having at least the 1 dvd out at a time. I just watched 'Bridge of Spies' and if I had paid for
it on pay per view, I'd paid at least $5.99 for that one movie. I average receiving 2 to 3
dvd's per week. I always return them the very next day so I can get another quickly.
They have tons of good movies and shows on dvd.

Amazon.....not so much. What I like mostly about Amazon is for starters, it is only $99 per
year and it's paid at one time for the year. That just seems easier to pay it by the year than
to bother with seeing it on your credit card every month. So $99 a year pans out to $8.25
per month. They don't have dvd service. They are getting better at creating some originals
that they own but thus far, I can't say they are great but you might think so. I do find some
movies and shows on there often that I don't find on Netflix streaming. Another thing of course
is that with Amazon Prime you get free 2 day shipping on anything and everything you order
that is a prime item and most stuff is. You can of course still get free shipping IF your order
totals at least $49.00. That kind of stinks since there are times you might want to order
something that is only $20.00. For example, the other day I ordered a $17.00 bag of dog
food and it was shipped free and I received it in 2 days. There's more...... Amazon Prime
now also offers free cloud storage and unlimited at that! You can upload all your photos
to the cloud and that way you know they are always safe from your computer crashes, etc.
The cloud storage alone could easily cost $5 or more a month. If you like to read you get
some free reading every month and you are aware of specials before the entire customers
are. They do offer a 30 day free trial so that is nice in that you can try it out first.

DISH....with dish, I usually have their America's 200 pack. I recently canceled it because
altho there was channels I still like to watch it just isn't worth it since most the channels,
I didn't watch. Even some of the channels I liked to watch, I seldom watched them. With
the package I have now, I cut my bill in half and I still get all the network channels including
fox, fox news, cnn, hln, weather channel, ID, diy, and a lot more.

I have a few Smart tv's. I also have Roku and Apple tv box's. Out of all that, the best is
Roku. They have tons of channels, tons of free channels, altho many of the free channels
have commercials.

Oh and in case you did not know, you can always get your local channels, even if you cut
your cable. Did you not know that?

I rated it a 6. And sometimes, that's too nice. LOL

We have DISH. Bundle. Internet, satellite, and a landline. The only thing we haven't had a problem with is the phone. It's $25 a month, private line, very low long distance charge.

Like Valerie, every so often we see a rise in the "fees" they say is government crap (which I think is pure crap coming from DISH), and now our TV pack has risen upwards over $10 a month more.

They got upset when we notified them we're no longer using their modems. We found the exact same, updated models on Amazon for over $100 less each, and are saving the "rental" fees now. My husband's DSL is dedicated, mine is attached to our landline.

Every single month, one of us goes without net anywhere from an hour to over a 24 hour period. Our satellite pixelates at the slightest hint of weather (not even a storm, just a sprinkle). They give us freebie movies, then turn around and charge us. And yes, we've gone through the same junk you're going through.

We would change, but unfortunately, Direct TV and all the cable companies are just as bad. It honestly doesn't matter where you go, either things work, the price is right...or everything goes to heck in a handbasket. ;)
