I have an old XP computer and I need to upgrade to a newer OS. I'm technically at a disadvantage since I've not been able to keep up with all the technology in the past years. I did buy Word 7 OS but am afraid I'll lose some of my programs. Instructions say to backup my programs but a lot of them won't allow it, especially my on electronic download that I paid a lot of money for it. Support was no help with that one because they want me to buy another new upgraded program...the one I have only came out 2 years ago. I am allowed to transfer this program to another computer according to their instructions but it doesn't work and I get no help from support.

Anyway, since I'm so dumb, how do I UNINSTALL my old XP so I can INSTALL the new OS? Don't you need an OS to run the computer? How would it run if I uninstall the OS? Thanks for any help.

What state are you in?

Ya, at this moment there is some hiccups in the forum. There are
times it runs slow, I guess due to processes, a lot of traffic, etc.

If you remove your old operating system, all I know is you would
need a dvd to install a new operating system. There may be another
way but I don't know what it would be.

PS. I don't think I have ever heard of a WORD operating system.

Normally, you probably not uninstall an operating system, but you can upgrade their old OS to a newer version.

In your case, you should be able to upgrade Win XP to Win 10

An upgrade is also cheaper.

Good luck !!

I would buy chromebook or chromebox instead. If only need it for internet.

Can get one of those in $200-300 range for portable version.

If prefer desktops they also have desktop version (ASUS Chromebox-M075U with Dual Core i3 CPU and 4Gb RAM) it $240 on Amazon but they got some 2 gb RAM version for low $100s (HP Chromebox Desktop Computer - Intel Celeron 2955U 1.40 GHz ) for $140.

That about what Win upgrade cost you. Plus doing this can still use windows computer for non-Internet stuff.

I did buy a laptop for $157 but having problems transferring my important programs (some are paid electronic downloads-no CD available), so it just sits here. I can only use it for the internet at the present time. It was upgraded to Windows 10 on it.

As for the upgrade, I also bought Windows 7 for $57 for my desktop. I really like my desktop better.

1. When you time out trying to post. You've not lost what you have written.

Leave the exiting page you're on, but open a second tab and log into forum.
