More than 115,000 people have already signed a Change.org petition calling for the boy's parents to be 'held accountable for their actions of not supervising their child' - and slamming the zoo for putting Harambe down.

This would never had been a problem if the mother would of had her 4 year old child in a security harness.

All Zoo's should require an age limit and require parents have their children on a security harness.

I really like the idea of that security harness for young kids. I also think the zoo enclosures should be designed so that people can't get into them, endangering themselves and the animals. There have been a few incidents now of kids falling in as well as suicidal adults jumping in.

In the video of this incident which I found online (showing footage prior to the gorilla being shot), the gorilla holds his hand out to the child and it almost seems to be a helpful, human like action.

Too bad this situation ended tragically.

I agree , A harness should be mandantory for small children. This child wanted to get into the water, like most kids do. The Gorilla seemed to be protecting the child from the people and loud voices above, as if this was his baby, So he dragged him through the water, trying to get to safety. The boy seemed to enjoy his scoot through the water.. :) He kept looking up at the Gorilla, as if he's asking for more. He had his fun and he will never forget this moment. Sad :( the Gorilla was shot, he didn't harm anyone. Parents know, you have to watch kids every moment, Only takes a split second for something to go wrong.

It all comes down to the S-F-B parents who cannot properly supervise their kids (and even raise them).

it's very easy to get knocked up on the moment, have kids, but you have to take care of them.

Same thing happens every year, kids drown in pool, should they start to sue pool manufacturers for making pools too deep ? Parents need to take responsibility and stop blaming "others" ;)

The kid is at a zoo and had no business being left there unsupervised.

I hope that these M-F are held accountable for their actions, and hopefully they don't have more kids.

Accidents do happen, but you take precautions, the kid was at a zoo FFS, :D

Lucky this ended well for the kid, this could have been a pool drowning or something more serious.

If parents cannot supervise their kids at the zoo, they should not bring them there to begin with.

and some say the big G was getting agitated..... Right....I don't think it was behaving like that because it wanted to harm the kid, it was doing that perhaps due to the panic, yelling/screaming of the onlookers.

This kid will grow up and will have something to bag about, that he was holding hands with a Gorilla moments before it got shot whilst the kid was still close to it.
"you see son, I was holding the Gorilla's hand and BOOM it got shot as I watched the bullet fly be me by inches.......all this because my parents didn't keep an eye on me .......I am lucky to be here now to tell you the story...."

Nice story to tell to your kids :)

I don't really think that parents should leash their kids like dogs, although it might
be a good idea due to all the predators (child abusers) today.

I went to that zoo when I was a kid, by the way.

My two cents:

-Animals should NOT be in a zoo. Zoo's should not exist.

-Animals that have been abused, under suffrage of some sort, should be in a sanctuary.

-Sanctuaries should be extremely secure.

-If zoos are going to continue to exist, they need to make them so secure as to no one
can fall in or climb in.

So the parents are stupid.
The zoo is stupider.

Oh, I left out my example......

When my children were small, I put things out of their reach that might harm them.

Wish the outcome to this incident would have been different for Harambe. Sad about this but glad the child is physically OK.
