Four people remain missing and three people are known to be dead, as the massive storm cell that devastated parts of the east coast causes record flooding in Tasmania.
Conditions in Tasmania are said to be worse than the state's deadliest floods on record, in 1929, with flood warnings still in place for several rivers.

Two people still missing - 81yo man from Ouse and a man in Evandale

TASMANIANS should brace themselves for more heavy rain and wind as brutal weather conditions continue.

Conditions over the past few days are said to be worse than during 1929, but authorities said a series of recent measures meant the threat was much lower now.

An upgraded flood levee system was finished last year.

It is a series of concrete levees and 16 flood gates protecting low-lying suburbs like Invermay and the central business district.

The Launceston Flood Authority said it was designed to withstand a one-in-200-year flood level.

Premier Will Hodgman has described the latest flooding as "catastrophic".

"This is an extreme weather event, the worse flooding we've experienced in this state in 40 years and it's likely to get worse," he said.
