Disappearing ads

Locked

#1 by jovmante » Mon Sep 26, 2016 10:22

Today I again experienced what I call "disappearing ads". I was clicking when mother nature called for me to use the bathroom so I did. To my shock/disdain when I came back after 15 minutes all that was left for me to click out of the 100+ regular ads I left were only 3! Can anyone please explain this event. Is this normal? Why? :o

Clixsense cache is a bit weird. Ads can disappear and come back during periods of inactivity - it's part of managing the server resources on a site this size.

Are the ads coming back after a few minutes of activity? That's the key part, I think.

Also, a fifteen minute poo is pretty impressive, well done for that.

I have the same thing, and no, they don't come back after a few minutes of activity when it happens every day around mid-day

Dunno then. For a few ads, it's not surprising at all. Ads expire. If you've ever run an ad here, you'll know they expire quickly. If it's everyone, and it's hundreds of them, and it's regular, dunno.

You keep posting that you have NO surveys, NO offers - so I do not understand how they can disappear.........

Well, thanks for replying anyway! It's seems to always be the big bunch of "xoxly" ads that it happens with, every day

Well of course they expire.

My guess is the large package ads, which I believe is what you are referring to, may at
times, list in batches. If you have been clicking those for awhile, you will know that you
some times see a number of 200 ads and then the next time you look, it is 220 ads and
you click another ad and you see it is 165 ads....and up and down like a yoyo. That tells
me these ads are coming in, in batches and as members click the ads, the ads go down
of course. More ads come in, up the count it goes, more ads clicked, down the ads it
goes, and so on.

There is most probable, hundreds of people viewing for ads at most any time of day or
night.

It's just like at 11:00 pm central when I may see hundreds of ads come in, I go to bed,
wake up, and I don't necessarily have hundreds of ads. It doesn't make any difference
if you are gone a second or all night, when the ads quota is up, it is up.

I can equate it to my little dog. One time I left a nutter butter cookie I was eating, on
the too close to the edge coffee table while I went to put clothes in the dryer. When I
returned, my nutter butter cookie had disappeared. I looked over at Bo and and it was
very obvious he had ate my nutter butter cookie.

Found a partial answer in the FAQ

Quote:... ClixSense averages over 800 people logged in at most times. If an ad comes in that has 500 clicks available on it, the first 500 people who click this ad will see it. The other 300 will have to wait for other ads to come in...

i.e. once a sufficient number of people click on an ad, that ad will disappear. Given the complaints I've seen on the forum about diminishing number of ads, I'd expect ad-viewing to be pretty competitive, hence it might not be too far fetched to think that a lot of available ads could get "consumed" by other people in a period of 15 minutes.

So now I get it. Clixsense has been eating my ads if I don't consistently click as fast as is humanly possible.
