Don't get me wrong. I fell bad about the people in Haiti and Cuba. But when is going to hit me in south Florida? The wait is killing me. I just want it to get over with now.

Didn't you get evacuation orders in Pompano Beach?

I think and so I been told, that when people die, they cannot take anything with them.

There is the old saying 'better safe than sorry'.

Unfortunately there are always those that don't heed the warnings, don't evacuate,
drive through water, etc. The really bad part is the people that place their lives on
the line trying to save those very people that do not heed the warnings.

So IF you are in an area that is to be evacuated, think of others and get out, even
if you don't think of yourself.

Stay safe.

More than 1.5 million Floridians are currently in evacuation zones.

Palm Beach County: Voluntary evacuations have already started. Mandatory evacuations are beginning Thursday.

Broward County: Voluntary evacuations for mobile homes and low lying areas have begun.

St. Johns County: Mandatory evacuations begin at 6 a.m. Thursday for barrier islands and low lying areas.

Duval County: Voluntary evacuations have started for Jacksonville Beach, Atlantic Beach and Neptune Beach.

Brevard County: Mandatory evacuations for barrier islands.

St. Lucie County: Voluntary evacuations have already started. Mandatory evacuations will begin Thursday.

Flagler County: Voluntary evacuations have already started.

Indian River County: Voluntary evacuations have started for barrier islands. Mandatory evacuations begin Thursday for barrier islands, mobile and manufactured homes and low lying areas.

Martin County: Mandatory evacuations are in effect for Sewall’s Point, Hutchinson Island, Jupiter Island and mobile homes.

Miami-Dade County: Voluntary evacuations are in effect for mobile homes.

Nassau County: Mandatory evacuations begin at 6 a.m. Thursday for beaches and coastal areas.

Volusia County: Voluntary evacuations of barrier islands Wednesday. Mandatory evacuations begin Thursday.

In all, some 50,000 Georgians have been ordered or urged to leave their homes.

Mandatory evacuations have been ordered for six coastal countieseast of I-95: Bryan, Chatham, Liberty, McIntosh, Glynn and Camden.
South Carolina

Charleston and Beaufort counties: Began evacuating Wednesday.

Officials anticipate evacuating Horry and Georgetown counties starting at noon Thursday.


North Carolina

Phased evacuation of Ocracoke Island ongoing. Hyde County issued a mandatory evacuation order for island visitors beginning at 5 a.m. Wednesday, to be followed by a mandatory evacuation for all residents at 5 a.m. Thursday.

The University of North Carolina-Wilmington has also ordered students to evacuate no later than noon Thursday.

My house was built in 1955 I have been through many Hurricanes. While this is the strongest I have seen. I think I am safe. house has shutters on all the windows and we are sitting tight. Thank you for your support

I lived at 'Ormond by the Sea' at Ormond Beach that is just down the beach at Daytona beach....for a
year. I lived less than a block off A1A across from the beach and that is just a few miles down from
Flagler beach. At the time I lived there, there was a time when a few were boarding up their windows
due to a storm BUT most felt nothing would happen seriously. Well, nothing serious did happen but I
tell you this.....that was a simple mild storm.....and I had a large picture window in my living room and
could see across to the beach and ocean. It was very frightening. The waves came up to the highway
on A1A and I could see those waves rising and coming in from the ocean. Most of that storm took place
at night. The next day, many of us were leaving our houses and the condo's there and walking across
to the beach but the beach was mostly gone. It was a few days before the water went down enough
to actually walk on the beach again. The storm had spit all kinds of junk out from the ocean....mostly
what I called sea weed.

I considered getting the heck out of there at that time.....and I think it was a category 0.

We lived in Key West when Hurricane Betsy hit. We were safe in a shelter where I could watch what was happening out a window from a tall building I was in. When we were allowed to go home thank goodness my brother was put to work getting tape off the windows and picking up alot of dead fish from the lawn!

That had to be something to see......dead fish in the yard.

We had to evacuate from the Daytona area.What a scary storm, glad it's over. Now it's time to go back home and assess the damage.

I just heard that a woman there at Daytona went outside to feed her animals in the height of the storm...
and a tree fell on her. Killed her.

Looks like 800 people dead in Haiti.

It appears St Augustine was hit the hardest in Florida. All I could think about was the alligator farm there. YIKES!

Glad it is over. All we got was a little rain and wind here in Lake Worth.

I have family in Volusia County..I've been glued to the tv all day and stressed. At one point the eye was just 5 miles from Daytona Beach, so glad it didn't make landfall.
