I was about to volunteer for the job until I read " dinghy"

Hey Bould,Tas and Me in a dinghy  How far would we get?

If you guys catch the outer wind band of Hurricane Matthew on the US East Coast, that dinghy could be doing about 150 mph westward. If you get airborne, you could even end up in my back yard in the midwest US. There are a few bears, cougars and skunks in the area so you just don't want to walk in the dark on a country road around here.

Suddenly, out of the blue, from nowheresville, for some unknown reason, I just now
got a vision.....a vision of a wallaby jumping through a sparse land carrying a pecan
pie whilst this strange music was playing.....

I'm a single dad, raising 3 teenagers. I don't give them an allowance, nor do I give them what "everyone else has".

I raise them, the way I was raised. Teach them to work hard, and I'll provide them with the basics: food, shelter, and clothes. They want everything else they got to go out and work for it. The world is tough out there, and I wouldn't be doing them any favors by just giving them everything they want.

My 17 yr son, finally decided he really wants to get a phone, so he's got a part time job to pay for it. I'm proud he understands that he is not entitled to this, and is taking responsibility to earn this for himself.

A lot of his friends have everything they want: phones, cars, game systems, etc. Who paid for it, though? Mom and Dad, that's who. Unfortunately, this is being more common than not.

More grown adults are living with their parents, and not getting jobs. I figure that I'll be part of the solution, than part of the problem though.

As parents it can be tough to say No to our kids, but we need to. That's my two cents at least. Thoughts?

Ya, a lot of people have the 'Jones' mentality.

I don't think all kids or people are like that though, in regards to getting everything handed to them.

One of the biggest rip offs is the cell phone. It's actually very insulting and personally, I would be
embarrassed to own a thousand dollar phone. I have mentioned before how I paid Verizon for years
about $80 per month and I had a rather expensive cell phone. I then came to realize the trakfones.
After throwing my money away to Verizon for years, I finally switched to a trakfone. I like it better
than what I had for years. I buy a new phone every year, about a $100 cost, and I choose the one
that comes with triple minutes for life. I am not one to talk endlessly on the phone or do texting and
all that stuff. I say hello, yes I will be there, goodbye. I know of families that spend several hundred
dollars per month for cell phone service. It's just stupid in my opinion but I guess it is all about what
you want and that is it.

I know people that own a half million dollar house, on upwards, and have a $2,000 a month
mortgage.....and they are always complaining about their mortgage. Me, I live in a moderate,
house, and I have $0 no mortgage.

Several years ago, I had a little chevy truck. I loved that little truck. It was just right for me. I
bought that truck used when it was a year old. I paid cash for it. I drove that little truck for
ten years. My sister grandson was looking for a truck so I let him have it. But I was rather attached
to it. I know people that have a $500 a month car payment. I have a very nice, rather new
vehicle. I paid cash for it. I will probably drive it for ten years.

Many people today, think they have to have the million dollar house, a new vehicle every year,
costly cell phones, etc. It is worrisome for many of those people. They worry about what if
their job lays them off. They worry what will happen if their business fails. They worry what
they will do if they can't make their house payment.

It's very sad, actually.

Most kids today are same as a parents . Why go to work if you can go to bank and borrow money , once repayment come, go back to bank and borrow more .I know so many with debt so huge that they have yearly repayment over 100% what they earn in year. And I am sure it is not only in Australia .

15 , 16 years old kids with 10 000 or more credit card limit is just a norm today

Around 2008 when the US economy tanked, there were a lot of people in my area who lost their homes because they lost their jobs. They could sometimes find new jobs but those paid significantly less. I can't imagine the terror of having a $3000 a month mortgage on a big home, losing a job and also having kids to support.

I make a point of living below my means. I have a charming little country cottage which I love and low expenses. I have never felt the need to impress anyone. Along the same lines, probably everyone has noticed the tiny home trend. These are the little homes (some on wheels) that are about the size of campers, enabling people to use their money on more important things like wonderful vacations they'll always remember. I really like that trend. I don't understand the attraction of the 4000 square foot home with the enormous mortgage that traps people in debt for most of their lives.

One thing that is really disturbing about the housing bubble burst is that home owners did
not take responsibility. I mean come on. You see a house, you want it, you cannot afford
it, but you go for it anyway....then when foreclosure rolls around, you cry about it and blame
everyone else.

Just for the record, for those reading this, I am not talking about unforeseen crisis. I am
talking about people that take out huge loans when they know they don't have the money
to pay it back. I am not sure what their thought processes are. Do they think that maybe
they will get a raise at work, a higher paying job soon, another family member will go to
work, they'll take a second job, they can manage til out of college where the great job
awaits.....what were they thinking?

Is it like waving a cookie in a child's face? NO. They are adults and even though they want
that house, they know they can't afford it. Just because a loan company or bank tells them
they can get the loan, doesn't mean they should. This is in large part, what happen during
the housing crash.

Sure, the banks were largely at fault too. Very much so. However, if people had chosen
not to take out the loans on houses they could not afford, I don't think the crisis would
have been a crisis.

The news said no jobs. People are better off joining reward program on the internet. I found some young people making 1200 a month by using auto play video 24/7. Since he have 30 smartphone run video 24/7. He is getting paid while he is sleeping.

I saw one young man he is making 6k a month by taking online survey and get paid to download app his tablet.

@valarie have you try Ringplus.net. It's a free cell phone provider. You have to pay one time fee top up. As long you don't go over the limit. Your cell phone is free the rest of your life.

I haven't pay a single cell phone bill over one year.

@valarie you want save money your cell phone bills. You never have to pay another cell phone bills ever in your life.

A lot of kids can join gpt sites and reward sites. They do not need to get a job.

A lot of kids want to make a living making YouTube video. Young people want to spend quality time with their family.

Work less hour and earn more money.

If you think kids don't need to get a job because they can join gpt sites and reward sites, then you have a problem and a serious one

Ok well the kids can pay for a cell phone and bill if they are making all that money and not
paying for rent since they are living in their parents basement, Barny.....I mean David.
