I mean why would we do on to them(animals) what we don't want done upon us ?
Veganism doesn't make much sense to me.
Chickens lay eggs. They're going to lay eggs whether you gather those eggs or leave them to rot. One could argue that we shouldn't have domesticated them in the first place - and I agree - but we have done now. There's no harm done to any animal by eating an unfertilised egg that couldn't even potentially become an actual chicken...unless you think the chicken was better to have never been born at all.
But at a first approximation, I'm vegan.
Yes but don't forget it's foremost about not supporting the slaughtering of animals and everything that comes with it, like live cruel transports on land and sea, cruelty and terror is the life of livestock on a daily basis.
And in many ways more horrible then we all think or see, and i couldn't imagine myself living in fear and being constantly beaten and my bones broken only to be shoved into some meat grinder or worse.
Many just don't want to see the truth and the reality of the cruel and horrific process on how the meat coming from an animal ends up in some good looking package with some nice colors, logo and picture.
It's all just a big lie thanks to very good marketing.
I'm not sure i'll ever achieve it but i'm close to it, about 90% vegan more or less, i guess that's good enough.
When i stopped eating meat alltogether i shocked friends, family and especially co-workers, their first Question was "if you don't eat meat then what do you eat ?", all i could do is laugh.
Many vegetarians believe that eating fish is OK but it's not because eating fish is the same as eating meat.
The good thing about changing your food habits to none meat and more vegetables is:
No more strokes
No more Heart attacks
Very good blood lab results
You feel healthier
Your mood becomes better
Your veins are cleaner
You find out that eating meat is nonsense
Once you're off the meat you will never want to eat it again
(And some other positive reason that i forgot right now, i mean the list goes on and on)
The best thing about is that i don't have to feel guilty anymore, it's our choice and i have made mine.
Foremost i want to make clear that i'm not criticising anyone here, just giving my 2 cents

Sometimes i buy frozen spinach that comes in a box, heat it up in some cooking pot and just eat it straight out of the pot with a big spoon. Tastes good.
