Quitting smoking

#1 by imab99 » Fri Dec 02, 2016 05:50

Thanks to you all who shared several pieces of advice and personal comments about quitting smoking, I've managed to read them all and gave a few likes accordingly :--)

Just one additional hurdle for me:
I do not smoke filthy cigarrettes. I got used to smoking pipe tobacco....
And geez, pipe tobacco smells so well *sigh...Holland House Cherry for instance smells like alchoolic cherry bonbons in front of a burning fireplace *dreamy look
So it's much more difficult *sigh
But I will get there :--)
It's a challenge and I like that :D

I feel so blessed that my first smoke at about age 15
tasted terrible to me and never tried it again.
Imagine the money I saved over all those years.

I agree and cannot figure out why tobacco isn't much more expensive than it already is
But I would still want to quit smoking even if I had it free of charge :D

Actually, cigarettes were a very inexpensive addiction. Probably the most inexpensive addiction ever.

It also has always depended on where you live, in regards to price of cigarettes.

In the 1960's, in the North East (Chicago area) of the USA, cigarettes sold for about $0.35 per pack.
In that exact same time frame, in the South East (Kentucky area) of the USA, cigarettes sold for about $0.19 per pack.

In the very early 70's, cigarette prices began to rise slightly in the USA. By the mid 70's, in the South,
Generic cigarettes began to populate due to the rise in cigarette prices. A carton of generic cigarettes
(ten packs per carton) sold for $3.00. It wasn't long and the same cartons rose in the 70's to $5.00
per carton as name brand cigarettes rose in price.

I know all that from first hand experience. Not reading from anything.

So by the time the 1980's rolled in, cigarette prices along with taxation was rising steadily. By the
1990's prices really began to soar as well as gasoline.

It's truly one of the largest increases in prices for a product over the years, that I have personally
experienced. Cigarettes and Gasoline. Over the course of 50 years, I'd have to say those are huge
increases and even Gasoline is Less in rise than cigarettes.

hello,
it is possible to quit smoking if u have self confidence.
I was a smoker for 38 years and left it when I decided to leave. but don't replace it with some other habit.

Ehehehe actually it's quite rare where I live :D
So rare that I would feel like a chimp in a zoo with everyone staring at me
But I'm not smoking pipe any longer, it's terrible for one's teeth, now I cut the pipe tobacco into very small pieces and roll it in paper :D

I believe that is it in a nutshell. You have to really want to quit.

When you get to the point you really want to quit, you'll stop making excuses and do it.

You could save even more money by going back to Croatia, and leaving your wife there.

The company philip morris announced this week they are going to stop manufacturing cigarettes. I don't know if it's include all their others brands but they plan to stop cigarettes as we know it

Good Luck with that . I've tried 3 different times to no avail . I work on the computer at work during the day 8 hours , it's impossible for me to quit . My husband has been rolling our cigarettes for quite some time now because the cost of regular cigarettes is so high . Good Luck staying "smoke free" in the New Year .
