What a "Wonderful Gesture!"

I read an article on-line today , Thursday 29th. Dec. . A woman passed away and left her entire 1.2 Million Estate to an Animal Shelter . What a great feeling that must be to be able to do this for all the abandoned and mistreated creatures . This made my Holidays . Where-ever you are , I Love you for doing this , I'm sure you are an "Angel in Heaven ."

Tasman, I thought you would write something like that ! Yes , 1000's of people die of hunger , but that is mostly in countries that are very , very poor ! Better to give what she did in the U.S.A. to creatures that have no say and are beaten every day . It is not her job to feed people in other countries .

I never give to charities that money ,
i know people in my area and once a year i pay up to max 100.00 shopping bill to one familly that i think is poor but honest . Once i am ready to give and i see them in shop i tell them that i am paying 100.00 at cash register

Oh come on.

Give a man a fish. What happens? He eats it and is not hungry that day.

So what ya gonna do? You gonna keep giving him a fish every day?

The solution is to teach him how to fish.

And...you cannot save the world. However, if everyone that could so something, would do something,
everyone would be in a much better position. That is much better position not just physically but
mentally too.

One million dollars is not very much money. I take my hat off to the woman that left her estate to
the animal shelter, most probably in her area....perhaps even one she volunteered or worked at over
the years. Whatever the case may be, she reached out and helped life.

If you give to animal causes, someone will ask why you didn't give to human causes. If you donate to the homeless, someone will ask why you didn't give to causes for children. If you give to children's causes, someone will ask why you didn't give to the church.

The important thing is that someone chose a cause they cared about and probably had a personal connection with. If everyone gave to the cause of their choice, it might change the world.

i think its the duty of the government and the filthy rich to do more than their share,us folk work 24/7 paying our mortgages, looking after kids etc yet we still have it in our hearts to reach out to the less fortunate, that's the human side of us...now look at all those people higher up on the scale raking in billions, what for? they not taking it with them, might as well give most of it away ,people will remember them long after they have gone.

half the world is in poverty, other half dressing in designer gear,is this ethical?

ok fair to see they have worked hard to get where they are,,but still in the eyes of the Lord we are all equal no matter how much wealth we have accumulated,we all have to account for everything one day.

I don't think it's a question in regards to the lady not caring about humans or children.

I do believe that is why many people do not give in places that they could, ridicule. So
they just don't give at all.

You see in this world today, there is always going to be people that ridicule other people even
when those other people do good.

I've thought about leaving some property I have to the local animal shelter in my area.

You see in my mind, it is important to help society, community, and our planet. Without
these things, what are we? There WERE animals on this planet that might have held
cures for cancer and other disease but those creatures are gone.

Animals are a LARGE part of our planet. Truth be known, they were here before humans.

Domestic animals such as dogs and cats, SAVE LIVES. There are war dogs, dogs that have
been trained to give their own life for humans by going in to places where bombs and/or
other dangerous things await. Dogs that have been trained to not only point out danger
but to save people in disasters such as earthquakes. There is too many ways for me to
count in which animals have saved human life. Animals work in rehab services every day
to help people with emotional and even physical health issues....everything from nursing
home patients to veterans to autistic children, etc. Millions of horses have died serving
humans. To top it off, think of the trillions of animals that have been eaten to either satisfy
someone's desire for meat or to save someone from starvation AND that includes cats
and dogs.

I really hate when someone says someone else is selfish because they did not give to
feed a child. It is lame. Because when we save animals, we are saving children and
humans and future generations.

I don't think it's a matter of choosing animals over people. But if you look around, there are probably hundreds of charities benefitting humans for every one benefiting animals. There are also far more grants available for projects and charities benefiting humans than for animals. I know. I used to be a fulltime grant writer and still volunteer some grant writing now and then for nonprofits, both for people and animals.

I guess all the legitimate charities are good but they do spend a lot of money on advertising
not to mention actually having some paid employees.

For the most part, I give in my local area. I can buy pet food at the local walmart and drive
by the animal shelter and drop it off. No employees or advertising costs involved. 100% of
my money for doing that is going to feed the animals. I can go to the local Christmas tree
in my area and pull a family and/or child. I can then buy those gifts for that family/child.

The first year I moved here, at Christmas, I ask at the local store where I could donate to help
a family. The man gave me the name and it just happen to be people that lived very close by.
It was an elderly woman and her daughter and several children. I called her and ask her what
she needed for Christmas dinner and what the children wanted for Christmas.

No doubt it is good the large organizations exist but what I am saying, I prefer to give myself
rather than go through channels and have my money eat up before it ever reaches the needy.

Unless you know 'rich people," you have no idea where they put their money. You see only the outer person. Chances of them giving to charities yearly is probably around 80% or more but don't brag about it. Look at all the foundations people like Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey, Warren Buffet, Koch Industries, McDonald's, Burger King, many other celebs, people in sports, etc. all give of their time and money. Most of the celebs give of their time and money in Africa to combat disease and hunger because right now, that's the country that's "in" in the eyes of the people. Who knows? In another year, it may be "popular" to help some other country. Yet, there are millions in the USA who are also hungry, homeless, and need clothing, etc. They get help from many celebs/businesses and from every day people but it's not broadcast to the world.
