What happened? How did this emergency surgery come up? Are you alright? If you need some suggestions you can always post. And I would suggest that always check out the alternatives before going in for surgery. Surgery should be the last option. Anyways take care. We all will pray for your fast recovery. Have your medicines on time. And don't worry about all of us. We are all grown up people and we can take care of ourselves.

And to valerie, I hope the surgery was fully successful and you will have a quick & pain-free recovery. Emergency surgery is a scary thing - no time to really prepare yourself for it.

I have back pain but use to it and not severe. So the past several days, the back pain has been
pretty bad. I ordered some Bayer for Back Pain, online with my order at Walmart online. It's two
day shipping now, so no big deal, I'd get it in a couple of days and that would probably help, I
thought.

I couldn't lay in bed on either side, as my back was hurting extremely bad and also my right side,
under my rib cage. Not a sharp pain, just a very annoying dull pain. I tried sleeping in my recliner
and that didn't work either. The pain grew worse and so did the number of times I went to the restroom.
Then I began vomiting. Not just any kind of vomit. It was very acidic.

I worked in health care most my life. I knew it wasn't my heart. I knew it was either my appendix
or a gall bladder attack. I was afraid it might be a bursted appendix and if I didn't make i to the
hospital in time for surgery, I would most likely die.

When I got to the hospital, it was determined I was having a gall bladder attack. They don't have
an ultrasound machine at the little local hospital. They did blood work and CT Scan. They're an
extension of a hospital in Memphis so as the CT Scan's it goes to Memphis where it is read and
results sent back immediately.

It was determined I had a huge gall stone and that my gallbladder was very thick. I needed surgery
quickly.

Fortunately they were able to preform a laparoscopic gallbladder removal. They drilled four or
five holes in my belly. They fill the belly with air and put cameras inside, find the gallbladder and
zap it and remove it out through the holes.

It's not a lot of fun.

I was knocked out most the time I was in the hospital.

Always make the decision to go to the hospital. I was correct with my own diagnosis and I was
glad that it wasn't a bursted appendix. Many people still have issues ever after gall bladder removal.
I sure hope I am not one of them.

I had my gall bladder taken out in 2010 & haven't had a single problem since then valerie. One of the nurses in the emergency ward a few weeks earlier told me that she'd had no problems after hers was removed either, and that reassured me a lot.

Experienced the pain badly on & off after meals for about 3 months beforehand. It was excruciating a few times & I had to be taken in an ambulance to hospital to get a couple of doses of morphine. The first time I thought that my years of drinking in my 20s & 30s had caught up to me & my liver had burst. Seriously - I thought I was going to die.

My mother rolled her eyes when I told her how bad the pain was (apparently, only women can experience real pain - men are just moaners). Then she was talking about it to her friends at the volunteer shop, and one lady told her that she'd had her gall bladder removed too, and she told Mum that the pain of gallstones was much worse than childbirth. My pain attacks were taken a little more seriously after that conversation.

Modern medicine is amazing. I had my gall bladder removed late in the morning, and that night, in the hospital bed, I ate chicken breast & steamed vegetables for dinner, and I was discharged the next morning. My whole time in hospital for the operation was approximately 24 hours (and I had an umbilical hernia repaired at the same time, so I had extra holes in my belly). Though, unlike you valerie, I was able to get all of my tests & scans done in the weeks beforehand.

Anyway, relax & take it easy for a while. At least laparoscopic surgery takes a lot less time to recover from than the old, more invasive, surgical methods.

Ugh!! I've learned to hate hospitals but glad that they are there when you need them.

I'm glad you are OK and at home now. Gall bladder problems are very painful, I had a friend and the same thing happened to her. She was supposed to have a party at her house that night, but instead had to be rushed to the hospital and had her gall bladder removed. I'm glad they were able to do it laproscopic, though. You just take care of yourself and rest. We will be here when you come back, don't rush, now, we want you to get well.
