How Do You Manage Stress?

Locked

#1 by greengarden » Tue Mar 07, 2017 01:08

My ageing laptop (like me) gave me so much stress these days..keeping me away from my clixsense indoor drills. Fortunately, I kept Billy Hank's Taebo handy, played it thru my video CD and alas..after 8 minutes, I chill out and recharged! How do you manage yours? 8-) 8-)

I'm assuming you mean Billy Blanks ;)

And my way to get rid of stress,go for a ride and/or go to the gym Muay Thai training/fitness.
Or go for a run with music on.

I have learned over the past 2 years how to handle stress. I use to get so stressed out that I actually had 3 major heart attacks. Now I have learned how to just enjoy life. Play with the dog, spend time with the kids going on a nature walk, or even spending time with the chickens. Knitting and crocheting also are other ways to get rid of the stress.

I got stressed out big time yesterday, came home and just chilled with the baby ducks for awhile. Loved the time with them and then felt so much better. So started getting my online stuff done, and had no issues. Of course all this stuff is still eating away at me, however I am trying to just let it go for now.

If I say about me then I will say I manage Stress by listening to the music which helps me to reduce my stress... And I don't care about others because as I listens others It makes me stressed very much and don't care for others what they will think about me...

Lots of us get stressed out, it is learning how to handle the issues. I actually was laughing yesterday my grown duck has a crush on our leghorn hen and he was giving her those eyes yesterday and following her all over the place. When a rooster would come close he was driving it away from her. I was just laughing at him. Crazy duck. I can't wait for the new ducklings to get grown

If it makes me mad me i throw it at my wall. I broken many an electronic things that way. But I feel better though. I broken lots of cordless phones that way too. My family knows stay away once I start doing it well most of them there one loves throwing gas on my flames but I learned to ignore them.

Chocolate helps me not get this mad but sometimes got wait long on phone to fix stuff hence my throwing cordless phones at the wall. I got few old fashioned phones last me until new cordless ones arrive. Thankfully all cordless phones broke been cheap useless ones too. Love my current ones so try not break them until need new ones.

Since my stroke I try not get that mad about stuff. Most days work.

It is easy to theorize about avoiding 'stressy' situations. In real life however, it's been proved that 90% of the time, you have no control over what happens to you. It is your reaction (the 10%) that determines what else happens.

As for me, I listen to Classical music, Jazz, Instrumentals etc or go for a walk.

Laugh. I am one of those people that some times cannot control my laughter and will
cry while I laugh.

It's easy today to cure stress. Just go to youtube and watch old shows like Andy Griffith and
Lucy show and Danny Kaye movies, etc.

Last night I watched 'Dana Carvey Straight White Male 60' on Netflix. That was the funniest
stand up comedy act I have watched in years. If anyone had came in at that time, they would
have thought I was in severe pain or out of my mind.

Don't take life too seriously. It doesn't take you seriously at all.

I find that silence helps me. Switch off the TV & the radio, and remove the distractions. Could be because I have adult ADHD, but I find that interruptions or hearing worrying things in the background makes my stress levels go up.

Avoid watching more than 1 hour of news & current affairs per day. There is rarely anything that makes you feel good on it. I stopped being a news & political junkie a few months ago, and cut my TV news & current affairs viewing down from a couple of hours to about 15 minutes each day. I'll switch the idiot box on for the headlines, & basically watch until the moment a "junk" story comes on (a minor football scandal, reality TV show update masquerading as news, faux outrage). Then off it goes. Try to avoid the news breaks that pop up during shows which you watching to relax. Who wants to hear about death or destruction or politics during a comedy or romantic drama?

Don't read opinion pieces on news sites that are clearly biased towards either the left or the right (I know - it is not easy to find a "neutral" news site these days). They will just make you either frustrated or angry or peeved off.

On Twitter & Facebook, don't subscribe to always-serious people or serial-complainers. Every time you read something that is wrong with their world, your stress levels will go up. If you want to get a fix on what's happening, try the satirical & funny tweeters. A funny comment attached to a serious non-issue can really give you perspective (and a good laugh, which is one of the best ways to reduce your body's stress levels).

Don't let yourself get tired. If you don't sleep well, and if it is possible for you to do, if you wake up after a just a few hours, get up & have a cuppa tea & do something light for an hour or two (such as a couple of ClixSense surveys). Go back to bed, & you should drop off to sleep fairly quickly. Better than lying in bed awake worrying about things.

Finally, about 20 years ago I learned the Serenity Prayer during a difficult time in my life. You do not have to be religious & can change the first word in it to whatever you want - I just change the superior being to "Please". This is the line I always think of when I am concerned that an aspect of my life might be getting out of control:

...grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference...

Also, no coffee within 8 hours of bedtime. The only caffeine I have after 4pm is a cup of tea after dinner. Get some herbal teas instead. One an hour before bedtime will help you wind down for the day. A good night's sleep is one of the best ways to reduce your stress levels, and you will function better overall when you are fully rested.

Hope some of that helps.

P.S. Please don't start posting "neutral" news sites in this topic. Everybody's view is different, and this forum has strict non-political & non-religion rules.

i agree fellow ,we have no control over our situations and what happens to us but we can take things lightly with a pinch of salt or let it get to us to the point of really depressing us,, i think a nice long walk through the park after an hour long session of screeching your head off can bring your blood pressure down...peace and tranquility is a good free remedy.

Agreed. I was just about to add another post about why I made mine so wide-ranging when I saw your good advice. Exercise, or just communing with nature, can really help you reduce stress. It also gives you time to think (or not think).
