How Do You Manage Stress?

Locked

#21 by seaeagle » Wed Mar 08, 2017 14:26

By the way, the reason I made my long post so wide-ranging is that, for many years I did deal with stress unhealthily. I would get drunk, blast my music (still do very, very occasionally), and wake up with regrets & a hangover the next day (and usually more worries if I had blown my money while drunk).

But removing or avoiding many of the things in the background of my life that were causing me to worry has been a lot more helpful. So, if you are stressed about your computer not working as it should, having fewer other worries on your mind will enable you to think more clearly and deal with the stressful situation in front of you a lot better. Stress gone!

Sometimes I do also just follow the late Benny Hill's sage advice:

Now if you're feeling miserable, if you're feeling blue,
Here's a little ditty that'll help to pull you through,
All the clouds will disappear, the grey skies turn to blue:
Just stick your finger in your ear and go ting-a-ling-a-loo.

I'm the opposite.

If I am stressing about something, the last thing I want is quiet or a walk.

i think if you manage everyday activities, life's ups and downs to such a degree where you are actually happy and satisfied then there really should be no stress...........nowadays life has become so hectic, work, kids, finance other innumerous things which are part and parcel of life all tend to bring wear and tear to life in general,i think a good balance of how you manage your daily routine and things should have an impact on your general overall well being.

of course there are things in life over which we have no control and stress over coz we don't know how deal with them effectively, for that i recommend a triple shot straight on the rocks and just go with the flow...... :D

ok okay this aint a solution but believe me you wont be stressing for a good few hours, which is a good thing

Actually being that I have a minor is Psych, there are things you can do when stressed.

The absolute first thing you should do is to avoid what is causing you to be stressed or
minimize it. That may be easier said than done, depending on what is causing your
stress.

Let's take this forum, for example. There was a member on here that always seemed
to get stressed over everything posted that she did not agree with. It was obvious she
was stressed by her replies. Was there anything she could do to elevate that stress?

Yes. She has/had several options.

1. don't visit the forums
2. don't read the posts
3. don't post
4. don't reply to posts

I always saw how stressed she was and one day, she figured it out for herself and now
she never posts and probably rarely visits the forums. That was a good thing for her to
do.

There are a lot of things we can do in our lives to eliminate stress and or reduce it
dramatically if we try to understand it and then develop a plan for it.

Food. Food often plays a role in our stress. Too much sugar and fats may have a
significant impact on how much we stress and how well we cope with it. For example,
have you ever felt stressed but had no idea why? Maybe it was those 5 candy bars
you ate last night. How would you eliminate that stress? You would make it a point
to eat healthy.

What about the man that is beating you up physically or emotionally and resulting in
a dramatic amount of stress for you. Eliminate the stress by kicking his no good low
living tail out once and for all forever. Stress gone.

There may be things in life we can't walk away from or change. In those cases we have
to change our self in how we cope with the stress. You can do that by learning to laugh,
to not take things too seriously, to meditate, exercise, look at the other side, etc.

It's easy today to cure stress. Just go to youtube and watch old shows like Andy Griffith and
Lucy show and Danny Kaye movies, etc.

Last night I watched 'Dana Carvey Straight White Male 60' on Netflix. That was the funniest
stand up comedy act I have watched in years. If anyone had came in at that time, they would
have thought I was in severe pain or out of my mind.

Don't take life too seriously. It doesn't take you seriously at all.

Another version of this quote is: "Don't take life too seriously, you can never get out of it alive."

Handle every stressful situation like a dog

Just pee on it and walk away

I'm the same way as well! I need someone to distract me from my thoughts! If I'm left alone, I go crazy!!!
I have tried listening to music, playing games/cards, doing an hobby and going outside for walks or to pet my cat, but none of that works. Working on :clixsense: seems to work (if I stay focused)! I also go to Youtube and watch funny videos of people falling down or watch ice skating which I love! ;)
