I used to have a sonic screwdriver that actually worked. I was very, very awesome.
Of course, it wasn't really sonic, it was RFID, but RFID was new, and nobody knew how it worked, so everybody agreed I was very cool, and they all wanted it too.
Wouldn't be so cool these days, not now you've all got NFC and stuff in your phone, but it was then.
And that's the same thing that'll let chipping take off. The first people to get it will be very awesome, and everyone will think it's cool, and they'll all want it too.
And before you know it, an entire generation sacrifices it's privacy without even really thinking about it.
