Hello Clixsensers :)

How many of you served time in your country's military and where did you serve? I served 20+ years in the USAF.

I spent 5 years overseas (for me) in Germany 2 years, Turkey 15 months, South Korea 1 year and Saudi Arabia twice.

Just curious, I consider Veterans everywhere to be Brothers and Sisters. Ask John Mossinkoff, he was a teammate of mine at one of the traffic exchanges and we did something special every Veterans Day. We are all in this together. John served in the Dutch Army as I recall.

Thanks for your input, always good to get to know each other.

Oh yes ! I served 1 day wow! In a French Air Force base. I watched videos most of the day and nothing more. Visited a
C-160 Transall that has nothing interesting since it's empty inside lol...
This is the new military service they introduced years back

I rarely post here but I just wanted to say thank you all for your service! I'm currently in the application process for the RAF, as my granddad was; and should be hopefully starting training by June/ July. Thank you to all previous and currently serving personnel. I promise I'll do my best to try and carry on the great service you fine people have given :D

It's been compulsory in my country to serve for the army for ages. The goverment has precise and strict rules about it. Unless you are handicapped or living abroad, you should attend the army without any discussion. The period changes however, according to your education level and some sort of other facts. I spent 12 months in army. I have bachelor degree so 3 months discount ( how stupid term it is). Normally, if you are a turkish citizen, and don't have bachelor degree, you have to spend 15 months in army sharp..

Well, I did not because they would not have me. I was too short (4' 10") I tried to join the Air Force but they said they could not stretch the regulations that much. My feet do not touch the floor when sitting. My Grandson is currently a Devil Dog! OOORAH! My son joined AF but got a medical discharge. My husband was Marine during Vietnam. My father was in Navy during WW11. My grandfather was Army during WW1. Well, military service goes back to to Civil War, and to Revolutionary War on one side of family. Other side ( Native American) we were busy trying to get away! LOL 8-)

I personally think everyone that is able bodied and mentally stable should serve 2 or 3 years.

Merhaba Kenny34!

I spent 15 months over there in Turkey. Based out of Balikesir, I spent a lot of time in Izmir, Ankara, and Adana. Lovely people and such a historic country. One time this Turkish soldier came up to me and asked me if I had a Marlboro, in perfect NY English accent. He was from NY and had to serve in the Turkish army as well. I was also hitting golf balls on a day off and a bunch of Turkish soldiers came over to see what was up. I got a couple of them to try and hit a golf ball, it was pretty cool. Have a great day.

Hi :)

Nice to see that you were in my country once upon a time. Balıkesir is very close to my hometown btw. Now i am living in Istanbul but sometimes i have chance to circle around Balıkesir especially its shore parts. I am glad you spent enjoyable time here and if you are willing to come here for any reason, i would be happy to put you up :)
