Windows 7 fully updated

Windows 10 fully updated (Now with anniversary edition) took 0nly 3 hours with windows update

Yeah mine took hours so I had to lose hours of online work. Sort of ticked me off, but at least it got updated, just told my daughter to leave her computer going all day and night today so it will update. She said it hasn't done it yet. And we have windows 10

In Windows , you can choose to upgrade yourself when it suits , no need to wait for the Widows update itself.

I upgraded manually and it only took 6 minutes for me.

Also upgrade the antivirus software manually , it's done quickly.

True, You can use Microsoft's windows installers from their website, Did that, back when windows 7's update system wer'e broken.

Actually i wasn't even aware that the anniversary edition on windows 10 were downloading, Heard some bad things about it, But it seems to work fine.

Changed some settings in the Group policy editor so updates won't download again. without my consent, Also updated my antivirus program, But thank's Zegon.

Luckily it updated. I don't know why the girls ever shut the computer off. Mine stays on all day and night daily. The tech at the computer place told me never to shut it off, unless if it was to let the computer install stuff. This one I have only shut off 4 times manually and it was due to a site getting stuck and my browser wouldn't close. But after 2 years my computer is still running perfect, and their computer has 1 issue right behind the other one.

Anything below Win 10 is affected, so far. Basically which are unpatched against these exploits. If you're on Win 10 you're most probably already patched as it downloads the updates mandatorily.

For older (yet supported) versions, Microsoft had released a security update on March this year to mitigate the exploits.

For unsupported versions like Win XP, Server 2003; MS have issued an emergency patch available for download at here: Customer Guidance for WannaCrypt attacks – MSRC

There is also a dedicated board at Bleeping Computer about the Ransomware infection and a thread has been opened by BC admin. for help & support regarding the latest outbreak: WannaCry, WNCry, WanaCrypt0r, Wana Decrypt0r Ransomware Help & Tech Support Topic

Try to do a system restore from safe mode and restore the computer to a date before the update was installed.

The Blue Screen can be a hardware issue as well. Utilities like Nirsoft's BlueScreenView can tell you what caused the system crash.

https://support.microsoft.com/help/981833/-stop-error-code-0x0000006b-process1-initialization-failed-error-message-during-startup-on-a-computer-that-is-running-windows-7-or-windows-server-2008-r2

this is the exact error code i get.
they say to apply the "Service Pack 1 pour Windows 7" But How? the machine doesn't boot. I can see only the blue screen or choose then "safe mode" ect which none work !
Then they also say to delete Bootcat.cache file and restart. I am not sure how people can do it if they can't even start the OS.
I can use another OS installed in dual boot so a hardware issue can be excluded i guess. So ok i deleted their file and restarted but same

Charez what are you running ? Some updates can not be run at laptops , they are for stationary only . My last Win 8.1 laptop got its C drive damaged that much that I never got it to work again by an update of its windows . Be careful by installing updates on a laptop , it might end fatal .

You need to keep tapping the "F8" in 1 second interval right after the computer is powered on/restarted.
If you did that & still 'Safe Mode' option doesn't show up then you have to fix that as well.

An alternative way to get to the safe mode is to: type msconfig in > start> search> hit> Enter> System Configuration utility. Here under Boot tab > Boot options Check Safe boot on Minimal. Click Apply/OK. Restart.

But that is when you can boot to normal mode.

When you can't even boot the machine, then you need to use the system recovery options to repair the comp.
If you have Win 7 installation disc then you can boot from there and choose 'repair your computer'.

If there is no Win 7 media then create one repair disc. It's always handy to keep a rescue disc in case you can't boot into the machine.

How to Create a Windows 7 System Repair Disc

Though the dual booting with any Linux distro is also advantageous. I keep some of Linux Live CDs ISOs. Most convenient. Just burn in to the flash drive and boot in seconds!

Quote:this is the exact error code i get.

That error can be caused by several things. A post on superuser[dot]com shows a member having that error due to faulty RAM sticks. After replacing those Memory sticks, it went away. MS articles generally gives canned features of error issues.

No, all versions of Windows.

Windows XP was the most recent version that hadn't been patched - so anyone up to date with security updates was fine, unless they were on XP.

XP has now been patched too, however.

Exceptionally Microsoft is providing updates for Windows XP - as many companies still use XP.

Yes and to think that some people knew about this and did not do anything or warn anybody. f****** c........

This happened to me many years ago, and that was the last time I ever used Windows. Maybe Microsoft is trying to tell you something?

Or slightly more helpfully, if you've got the recovery disk, and do all the repair crap, it'll break Grub - but you can install Grub to the real filesystem from a LiveCD.

That's a bit mild.

One would suggest something more along the lines of And to think, that this only possible thanks to your democratically elected government's intelligence agencies whose very job is to protect you from this kind of thing in the first place.

Note that even if you pay the amount, your won't recover the files. Several people have already done that, but their data remained encrypted.

And this variance of ransomware doesn't give a black screen, rather it displays a typical screen like this:

So paying the hackers is not a solution. If you're infected, then only thing you could do is to back up the encrypted data and wait in hope for a possible solution that the concerned developers would be able to provide successful decryptors.

There's a reason why it's said 'prevention is better than cure'.
