My sweet little Catahula leopard dog was poisoned by a neighbor in my own yard. He was loving it being outside in the yard lately all day long with the chickens, so he got to enjoy it. I noticed my neighbor 2 days ago next to my fence and never once did I think they would do the unthinkable. They however did. They threw food in my yard with anti freeze in it. Today I lost my baby. I am very lucky though that I didn't have chickens eating the food otherwise I would have lost my whole flock. I got major at the age of 4 weeks and he fit in my hand. I brought him up to the age of 5 months so for 4 months I was his mom and we loved each other just like a real mom and child do.

If I decide to get another dog it will be a full grown pitbull. that will tear anyone apart if they try to come through my gate or reach over the fence. Major was our second dog in a year that the neighbors had messed with the first one Jack they beat to the point to where he was terrified of people, then they left my gate open and when I came home not only had we been robbed, but the dog was outside running up and down the road. I thought the Catahula was my best choice for a guard dog, companion and for protection of the flock. Major never got the chance to be all of that. :( Jack is at my husbands now and enjoys it and now has no trust issues since he is away from here. However if I brought him back I am sure it would go back to the snarling at all of us again, and the night terror dreams again. He just was hurt so bad here that we had to let him go to my ex husbands to keep him safe.

You may have heard me speak, in the forum, of axes, and crossbows, and such things.

The truth is, I'd never really use them, not until the apocalypse comes anyway - but as long as people think I will....

Just something to consider.

Yeah I know, I have plenty of tools left in the house however when we got robbed before everything in the barn got stolen. I even keep a cast iron fry pan next to the bed and one in each of the kids rooms, just in case. So tired of this neighborhood over the past 2 years. It is out in the country but one lady bought up homes across from us when the crash happened back in 2008 and now she rents them out to anyone that has cash on them. No background checks no nothing.

I've been very vulnerable for a lot of my life. There are two ways you can travel - you can be rich, or you can decide not to fear homelessness, or often worse, the very rough housing estates you end up in afterwards.

If you want to survive when you're vulnerable, you simply have to appear non-vulnerable.

When I need them to be, everybody is scared of me - but I've never even raised my voice at anyone, nevermind a fist, or an axe. i'm not just being facetious here - sometimes, you just have to appear more intimidating to your neighbours than they do to you.

@hlrive

To give you a Really USEFUL answer read this:

Quote:Filing Charges
If you know who is responsible for harming your animal companion, go to your local courthouse and file a small claims suit (no attorney is needed). Although it’s difficult to put a monetary value on an animal’s health or life, this simple court action may bother the perpetrator enough to prevent him or her from committing a similar crime in the future. When you file the form, which costs approximately $30 to $50, you will be given a court date. At the hearing, present all your veterinary bills, documentation of any related expenses, and your veterinarian’s signed statement. Unfortunately, animals can still be viewed as property with a price tag, and a small claims court can only recover the “dollar value” of the animal and your expenses.

But you may also be able to file criminal charges. To do so, find out who is responsible for investigating and enforcing the anti-cruelty codes in your town, county, or state, and then provide that person or agency with a concise, factual written statement about the incident, giving dates and approximate times. Collect short, factual written statements from witnesses, and write your own if applicable. File a complaint with a humane officer, the police, or a county or district attorney.

Along with the anti-cruelty statutes, other laws, such as those regarding discharging a gun within city limits and destruction of property, may have been violated.

Do you have an autopsy report from the poisoned dog ? It's good to have documentation as evidence in court.
If i where in your situation i wouldn't let this go, this is animal cruelty. I hate animal cruelty more then anything.

Look here: animal-companion-shot-poisoned

Try to get the RSPCA to investigate this incident since poisoning pets on purpose falls under Animal Cruelty and is illegal.

Our local animal control does nothing at all. the same neighbor has 2 large rotty mix dogs that climb my fence and kill my chickens. This is why I went with a Catahula they will kill any dog they don't know that comes near their charges. In this case it was humans and poultry. AC was called out 4 times in 2 weeks, never once did the man get written up. Never once did anyone have to pay for the chickens. So today they came out and they said they can only do something if I have photos of the man putting the food there on my property same thing with police. Remember this is the same police that never went after the men that held my husband at gunpoint in his own van and forced him to drive them way out into the middle of no where, and stole all of his money, cell phone and lots of tools from the work van. Never once did they finger print any part of my husbands wallet or van to see who did it. The same police that took 6 hours when we caught someone stealing stuff from our home and we called. Yet the police station is a 5 minute drive away. They want our taxes for them to protect us yet they wont do crap when it is needed.

This is the same couple that told AC they had a kennel for their dogs and AC believed them yet there is no kennel on their 1/4 of an acre lot and AC could have seen that. Yet they didn't look.

Aww, I'm sorry that's happened. :(

Do you know why they did it or was there even a reason?

It does make you question how they treat their own dogs when they can so easily poison another animal. It surprises me when I hear stories of someone poisoning another persons pet to find they have pets of their own.

OK

I was just explaining in detail that i offer a free service for animal protection outside the law, that's all.
Real service no joke since i got tired of the legal way, and it fullfills my personal needs at the same time.

They actually have 3 dogs and do nothing with them. The local Animal control has been out a few times due to neighbors complaining about them attacking kids, and nothing has been done about it. It is like they think they can have dogs that run all over the place and they don't care. None of their dogs have had shots, been spayed or neutered. Yet everyone but them is at fault. My total of dead chickens this year is 27 to their dogs. The worst part is that my property is 100% fenced in with a 5 foot tall fence. The rotweilers climb it and their small dog goes under the gate. I am going to be adding barbed wire at the top of my fence this coming month if that doesn't do the job then I will buy some razor wire, if that still doesn't work then I am going to electric at the bottom and top. If that doesn't work then any options will be on the table.

As to why they did it, they don't want dogs around anyones property because if the dog barks you know they are stealing stuff.

Did you consider buying some pepper spray instead and spraying your neighbor, works for dogs too. But consider it's not the dogs fault, it's your neighbor's fault. When spraying dogs then don't spray them too much, just enough to do the job. Make sure there is no permanent damage to them (i mean the dogs).

Why make your home a fortress since offense is the best defence for most problems that i have encountered.
Another solution would be to call the Police and tell them with a scared voice on the phone that you think your neighbor has a gun and is pointing something that looks like a gun at people outside, or something similar. Make it sound realistic, you need to confince them. The Police will have no choice but to come out, with any luck your neighbor will soon be history. As you can see there are many ways how to solve this problem without turning your home into a fortress.

PS: i never realised until yesterday that this forum is more censored then freakin facebook, plain retarded topics and threads for the most part in this forum that just kill your braincells like those reality shows on TV. No wonder i left.

Edit: i'm gonna stay and continue having some fun reading retarded topics and laughing my **ModEdit**Vulgar Language**.

i dont know why humans would harm any animal,,its not exactly that they are up against it or competing against it!

any person harming, killing ,abusing or even hating animals has a heart of steel,,,no remorse,no emotion and above all no consideration for any kind for life!
these people should be burnt at the stake...

i remember when i was young,a friend of ours gave us an alsation puppy,it stayed with us for about a year, named it sheeba, was a long haired alsation, beautiful she was,so cute, anywayz one day i returned from school, sheeba had gone,i asked my mum where she was she said she didnt know,i knew she was lying, she was never a lover of animals,it just that me and my bros and sisters insisted on having her that she eventually let in...anyway later i found out my uncle conspired with my mum and they took the alsation in the car and drove somewhere far and left her

i just hoped someone would find her and take her in,i was too young to do anything, all i could do was cry.

anywayz cut along story short,if you dont like animals you are in humane :!:

Very upsetting.

These type of incidents are not rare though.

Cruelty, killing, harming to any animal can be the most heinous crime of all.

Hope the perpetrators are convicted and gets the strictest punishment possible in according to the laws applicable there.

Though for these creatures (I refuse to call them human), I wouldn't hesitate to take the law in own hands.

It also depends on culture, Pindo

Here in Copenhagen a lot of people from other countries are absolutely terrified of dogs, Mostly it's people from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Iran etc, which most likely don't have the same pet culture where they come from.

I've seen it many times, Some of them starts running like crazy when they see a dog ;)
