Does anyone still use Dial-Up! If my cable company can't get their act together and keep my access running I am going to have to do something different. Might just go back to dial up! ( I know scary thought) I hate paying big money for high speed, which is not that fast, just to have it go out several times a day.

I have called and complained to no avail. Still get the same ole thing! If you do use dial up how is your success here.

I still use dial up, but only for FidoNet.

It's not really a viable option these days...most webpages are bigger than most videos we used to download in the olden days. Twenty million random bits of javascript are included on every page, just for fun, and there's another dozen included because they're actually needed. Then everyone has a photographic background these days of a high res image which can - sometimes literally - take an hour to download over dialup.

Your high speed internet is probably faster than you think it is, it just doesn't feel like it because the internet turned into a bloaty piece of crap over the last fifteen years. You will notice it when you go back.

Why not go the other direction and get high speed fiber optics like I did. I went with Frontier 30Gb/s both up and down and have been very happy.

I got 1 Mb dsl connection . I admit others claim it to be slow , but it depends on what it is needed for and if you got the time to spend on the slower up and down load time . It is fast if it only is for use on pages like this and a couple of up and down loads from time to time . I got no need to pay more for a faster connection speed . My provider did have trouble once with their servers for several month though and it kept getting worse until they decided to renew all of them and upgrade the software at the same time . I have had no trouble worth mentioning with them since . It was a royal paine wile the trouble lasted and I did consider changing provider at the time , but today I am glad I didn`t .

I do not have that option. I live in a small rural town so that option is not available. The only other option is DirectTV plus their internet service. 8-)

Well, all Suddenlink ( my current internet service) guarantees is like 3Mps. I have done several speed test online and they all say I am not getting even that. I live in a small town so there are only 3 options. Cable, Dial Up and Directtv with ATT. Everything is so expensive now!

I used to get pretty good speed back when I had Dial Up. My tech. guy told me the fewer on the service the faster your speed will be for dial up. I know it does not compare to Broadband and all, but like you said it depends on what you need. Thank for the reply. I am thinking on the issue. 8-)

I might help you compensate for the connection speed . I use an optimiser program on my laptop to speed up its net part . It is able to get 2 to 4 x the normal speed out of a standard computer / laptop . My favorite is Advanced system care 10 , but other payfree programs might be just as good .
