It would be a pretty hard job actually.

Imagine trying to find every meteorite that hits Earth (estimated to be between 36 & 166 each day), and then having to check them for any organic (carbon-based) compounds they may be carrying from the outer solar system or even interstellar space. If life on Earth was seeded by a meteorite (which many scientists believe highly possible), then there is nothing that says life on Earth cannot end the same way.

Of course, the real job is making sure that our space probes do not carry our germs to other worlds. It would be terrible to one day land on Mars or Titan & find that there had recently been extra-terrestrial life there, but it had been wiped out by a human germ or virus that had hitched a ride on an earlier probe. That is probably NASA's greatest fear - to commit genocide on an alien world before humans have even landed there.

If you look at the job application on USAJobs.gov and the overview of Office of Planetary Protection, the responsibility is to prevent biological contamination (e.g. germs, virus) from Earth to other planets and from other planets to Earth, not fighting aliens.

The easiest job six figures income all you have to do to fight alien. Mostly likely you won't see any alien.
