New data from Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare reveal the country has broken its previous record for the number of people living past their 100th birthday.
The country has the highest proportion of people over 65 compared to every other country on Earth. Coupled with falling birth rates, the dwindling pool of young people is struggling to cover the costs related to an ageing population.

Japan's centenarian population has been rising year over year since 1971, when there were just 339 centenarians.

Last year, government data showed there were 65,000 centenarians. This year marks the 47th consecutive year the country of 127 million has broken its own record.

What do they eat?

lots of fish , seaweed, sea algae etc

They have a great lifestyle like them much

I would only want to live to 100 if I didn't need anyone to take care of me.

I think Japan is having more centenarians. Happy to hear these words. I am from India. It is very hard to find a single centenarian due to socio economic and health conditions. But getting up and up the average age of life in India. Hats off to Japan.

You are right Valerie , live to 100 will be bad...... 200 will be much better

If that is what they eat I should live that long.
Only 18 more years for me to reach that milestone.

Even 70 in this day and age is pushing it. See to many elder people in homes suffering. Such a sad state

I have personally known several people who were centurions and I think I will pass. If I get passed 80 (less than a year) and I get a chance to punch my ticket I will GRAB it. I already filled out the directive to let me ride if the train pulls up, no way I want to stay here as a vegetable.

70 ? so I have to die in few years time ? forget that , I am staying , no heating in grave , I will be there like dinosaurus in permafrost

My grandfather lived into his 90's. Altho he did move in with one of his son's, he was still
totally capable of caring for himself. The exception was that he lived in a rural area, could
not drive to town. He was at the stage that he wasn't real active but he could still walk,
take showers, feed himself, hold interesting conversations, etc etc etc.

I have known of people that were 100 or near it, that I would not have guessed their age
if it hadn't been for someone telling me. There are people that age or near it, that still
function perfectly, go dancing, etc.

I will do my damndest and have a good reason now
as in another year or a bit more my SKYWAY shares
will pay me a healthy quarterly divident.

If people live to 100 in the USA, they won't be able to get their social security until
they are 80.
