It wasn't loading the desktop or my other screen for password on startup. Left it sit 3 days, turned it on and got a message that it was "preparing/diagnosing automatic repair." Said it "could not perform automatic repair" and gave me 3 choices: advanced options; restart; or shut down. I chose advanced options and then got a screen to start (or somthing like that). It seems to be working okay now.

Anyone know what's going on with it? I'm using Windows 10. My Pod's secretary is having the same problem on her desktop. She's using Windows 7. Is it a bug in the programs?

So here goes (Hooray for copy and paste)

If you have the win 10 installation cd, you can reinstall windows just by putting it in the disc tray before you turn on your pc (it will uninstall and reinstall windows and guide you through it)


There's also other options (of course)

1. Go to the desktop and click on the settings icon
2. Select the update and security option.
3. Choose recovery in the left pane and click on "Get started"
4. Choose between keep my files or remove everything.
5. Choose between just remove my files or remove files and clean the drives (I think you should just choose "just remove my files), If you want to be certain that everything is deleted (Choose the other option) it can easily take several hours.Then click on next, Continue and at last RESET. It should fix windows.

If your laptop comes with win 10 pre-installed (And no installation disc) there's almost always a restore to factory setting option but it differs from which manufactor you bought it from.

If it's Hp i think it's F11 on your keyboard, Do this : turn on your pc and keep tapping F11 while it boots. Instead of going into windows it should take you directly to the recovery screen in the boot menu (There you will find the factory reset option).

If your laptop is from Acer i think it's F8, Just do as mentioned above.

Thanks. I'll try your options. As for Win 10 disk, don't have one. I have Windows 7 and downloaded free Windows 10 upgrade when it was available.

Today, when I turned my laptop on, everything worked fine UNTIL I tried to get on the internet. No connection. My options were It uses Xfinitywifi which says no internet. If I click on Connect, it's supposed to connect automatically but doesn't my personal connection which is secured, and 'hidden network, also secured"? I had no trouble yesterday so I don't know what the problem is now. I guess I just have to call Xfinity for the 3rd time this month.

I don't know much about Xinfinity or their services and can't really do much to help if the problem is on their side, But there's a few thing's you could troubleshoot to get it working.

You can toogle wi-fi on and off in windows, So maybe it's because it's turned off.

In the Windows 10 desktop click on the wifi icon in the system tray (The bottom pane to the right) It should give you 2 options Wifi and airplane, Just click on wi-fi and turn it on.

If there's no Wi-fi icon in the system tray, Go to the desktop and click on settings in the start menu, Then click on Networks and internet, select wifi in the left pane, Scroll down and click on change adapter options, Right click on wifi and select enable.

It could also be your router that needs a reset, It's quite easy really

Most routers should have a reset button which restarts the modem, Press it and see if the connection comes back.

Or, You could just switch it off/Or cut off the power to it. Wait 3-5 minutes before turning it on again and see if the connection comes back.

Gave up yesterday. Called Comcast this morning first thing and 15 minutes later, got internet back. First thing he asked was if I reset the modem. I'm going to print your 2nd suggested ideas for the next time because I know it will happen again. That's the kind of luck I have

Ha! Had to call them twice. Got it back but it a couple hours later, no internet. Second time i called, they couldn't find the problem. Everything they tried worked for a couple minutes So they gave up and said they'd have to contact the brains to see what was going on. I hope it's fixed now. No problem yesterday.

I'm no expert on laptops (I only have a basic understanding of them compared to desktops) but your issues sound like what I suffered from with my previous desktop PC...it would randomly crash for no reason, take several attempts to load windows (I think I had internet issues but not totally sure)...anyway, I tracked the fault to the Wireless card in the PC and, when I disconnected it, the issues stopped. What was strange is that I wasn't using the Wireless card as I always prefer a wired connection but, it seemed, having a dodgy card attached to the Mobo was creating issues everywhere. It may not be the cause of your problems but might be worth bearing in mind if they persist
