My OS is XP. i do have Windows 7 but then I lose all my programs that were digital downloads. I have 3x4 shortcuts on my screen so no can do. System Restore stopped working. I think my motherboard is going or else the hard drive. Things are so slow to load. It's like being back in the days of DSL. I can't watch videos on the desktop because of them stopping and starting, jerky sound.
I started using my laptop more often but yesterday I got a third reminder from Windows10 that there's an update so I thought being the weekend, I'd do the update. Well, it was strange. I got a blue screen with the question of which keyboard I was using and all different countries, choose US, then I got nothing. Black screen. No internet, no desktop program shortcuts, just the recycle bin, which didn't work. i shut it down and restarted. It said "HI" and then asked for my country keyboard, then black screen again. I can't get anywhere. I restarted and hit F2, checked the info there and everything is the same but I still have nothing. I'm bummed because that was my backup.
Last thing I did on there was CS videos.
So, I'm really up the creek and don't know what to do. I can't afford another computer nor can I afford professional help. Last time I used professional help, it was to set up Windows 7 on the laptop and it cost me $140. My really old computer needs a power supply and I could use my son's computer that he gave me but it wouldn't let him change the size of the monitor screen (he used it to hook up to a TV). So I'm stuck.
Any cheap suggestions?
