Hi. I would appreciate any clixsense members coming from any of the Scandinavian region (Sweden, Finland, Denmark & Norway) to offer some travelling advice.

If you are from any of these countries, kindly PM. I need info which I will ask in the PM. No worries - I'm not spamming or whatever. :D

I'm planning for a 1 month backpacking adventure in this region & therefore any help/info is very much appreciated.

Thank you.

p/s: however, if u feel more comfortable advising in here, plz feel free to post your response & i will ask in here. TQ

I'm from Finland.
Feel free to ask - I'll try to help.
(Depending on what you are looking for :) )
Ask here, so if anyone else is planning this, it would help them as well.

Hi @Anneli100. Thanx for your response.

1- My plan is a backpacking adventure in all the 4 Scandinavaian regions during the end of winter season .... starting around April. However, as i planned to watch the Northern Lights, i understand that it could only be view during the winter season, that would made it (almost) impossible to go on a backpacking trip without needing to carry all the thermal/warm clothes around. Do you have a better suggestion how i could do both at the same time (watch northern lights & backpacking trip)? My concern is the cold weather as i understand its unpredictable too. Would it be still too cold at end of winter season and start of spring?

2- My arrival place will be in Sweden. i understand i could watch northern lights in the north of sweden too, am i right?

TQ

Northen light in Sweden for rpdesign

Just go to any part from Jokkmokk to the northern border with Norway , that is usually considered the best area

From time to time . let say once in 6-7 years you can see it from Stockholm to

But trust me it’s very possible to spend a whole week in Lapland during winter and still not see anything

LOL....i do not have such long time to wait till the cow comes home, as i will be travelling to 4 countries within a month. the most i could wait is just 1 week to see the northern lights, then the backpacking adventure begins. i'm equally worried abt the weather for backpacking though

I really think you should visit Denmark.

There's really nothing to see, But the beer is good

And instead of the northern light you could see "The Little Mermaid" It's always there.

I don't know why?, But Asian tourists goes absolutely bonkers when they see the statue (it's good for the economy).

yeah....i'm DEFINITELY hopping over Denmark for couple of days but not to see that fairy tale mermaid
i like Denmark too for its beautiful historical landmarks and scenery. beer? nope ... i'm more into coffee!
but i can't resist the temptation to watch northern lights - no matter how/what. its a MUST for me and my troop tagging along. a once in a lifetime opportunity that i cant miss out at all cost

Ok , if you must go just go and hope you will be lucky and you will see it , just try to go North as far as you can , Jokkmokk or at least go north to Umea or Storuman ...............Good Luck , ah yes , and if you see some blonde send them to Tasmania

BEST places to see it ......Abisko [ far far north ] Jukkasjärvi [ and see nice ice hotel ] Tärendö [ small but nice

ok....i will remember that. thanx

was thinking of Norway as the first stop instead of Sweden. But i have to drop in Sweden first to visit my long lost sister and then move on from there. but as i heard that i could view it from the north of sweden too, it might be more convenient..... just that i'm wondering where's the best spot.

and yeah .... blondes  ... i hitch one first and if i doesn't like, i can ship it over to u

You should try to go to Norway first anyway - it's so narrow, that if you misjudge your stopping distance, you end up in Sweden anyway, so going for Norway first gives you a second chance of getting it on the way back.
