Be patient, the ads just pop on random intervals -- so keep yourself a bit busy by visiting the other Forums, or play a few games in between. Just be sure to refresh your browser from time to time ( say, every 3-5mins by pressing F5 ), or have the toolbar installed and it's alarm volume set to alert you

Ad Credits are used for promotional purposes -- say you have a blog, a website, or anything you'd like to link to for traffic ( and referrals ), you can use this to show up here in for the members to see ( and maybe visit / sign up ). Remember though, that once you submit a link for the Ad Credits, it'll still be under verification with the staff
