Just one more to add to the collections: Microsoft SysInternal's Autorun -- a stand-alone program that analyses all programs in one's PC/Laptop where the user can disable or delete ( a good startup program checker, if one wants to know what runs every time they boot up )

:!: Warning though -- this is not a tool for the beginner level users; make sure to read all the documentations and help topics about this tool; refer to Youtube videos if you want to see how it works, how to use it properly and what to avoid -- because one wrong deleted file or ".dll" file could render your unit into an expensive paperweight ( reformatting will then be your best option )

And I have set up passwords/bookmarks/add-ons/history/preferences sync in FireFox.

I'd agree over this Mozilla add-on

Have you checked out the add-on BrowserProtect ( as of this post, it's ver 1.1.3 ) -- try adding that to your list to protect your Mozilla browser

If you have MBAM ( MalwareBytes Anti-Malware ) in your system, update the program -- then reboot your PC/laptop BUT instead of letting it run as it should, when the Windows Logo appears, rapidly tap on the F8 button to shift you to run your system in Safe-Mode -- Use the Safe-Mode with Networking -- once in ( logging in, assuming you have Admin level rights ), run MBAM on Full Scan, that should be able to find some of the offending traits ( oh, MBAM has a Chameleon program that you can run -- this added system in MBAM completely disables any rouge program that may hamper with the scan; click on the Windows Logo, then "All Programs", then go to the "MalwareByte's Anti-malware" folder, then click on the "Tools" folder )

No MBAM? Try SAS ( SuperAntiSpyware ) Portable? The free downloadable stand-alone program performs the same way like MBAM

Another way to block the offending URLs is AVAST Site Blocker option -- and perhaps the final ( hope it's not the last resort ) solution would be to configure the HOST to completely block the site/s

Perhaps another option is to try running HJT ( HijackThis ), save the notepad results and visit a Tech Forum that specializes in translating HJT results; a bit of searching will led you to reputable Forums

CCleaner now available for Mac » Post #12

 Just copy-paste the search engine keywords onto your favorite search engine bar, the closest search will lead you to the main site -- Piriform.com

I wouldn't recommend downloading the CCleaner app just anywhere ( especially if a site wants to offer a download manager FIRST, and then makes you install a search bar that you DON'T really need in the first place, before downloading the product that you really need -- I personally avoid these sites, and you should too *nod, nod* )
