Finding dory have a lesbian couple. Warn your kids » Post #40

I don't know about your ancestors, but mine differentiated between being the pitcher, and the receiver, so to speak. Being the pitcher was fine. Being the receiver, less so. They weren't as progressive as they probably should have been, but it's an improvement over the kind of things you hear in these threads.

I find it remarkable that the Vikings 1,200 years ago were more progressive than Americans are today.

No, it's not a sin.

The Bible says "You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination."

And in fairness, it would be. That would really, really hurt. That's not a sin, that's good practical advice to have sex in a different way depending on the gender of the person you're having it with.

The Bible says you shouldn't lie with a man as you would with a woman. That doesn't mean being gay is wrong, it means stop nagging your missus to take it up the date.

It kinda sucks that kids choose celebrities as role models rather than doctors, or scientists, or something. But for better or worse, they do. As far as celebrity role models go, he was one of the better ones.

Depends on your point of view, I suppose. Herjólfsson did see land, but explicitly refused to discover it, turning back despite protests of his crew. To attribute the discovery of America to him is to attribute the discovery of the double helix to Mendel. Either way, properly avenging Erik the Red would have been the fix.

The biggest mistake of our empire was letting Leif Eriksson discover America.

Three generations in a row got away with murder. Is it any wonder it's in this mess now? If that'd had been in our glory years, they'd have been avenged, and none of this would have happened. But it wasn't, it came in our twilight, long after both Guthrum and Rollo had become traitors.

I want Anita, the robot from humans. Go invent one of them, and we'll talk.

Oooh, or Marvin. I would love a Marvin. But the one from the books, radio, or TV series. Not the crappy white round thing from the film.

You could probably figure out what the perfect parents are in a laboratory, but this isn't a laboratory, this is reality.

Let's assume perfect parents are a male and a female - I'm not convinced since historically, children were raised by women, while the men where off at war - but lets assume you're right, That's still only one metric of many. The perfect parents would probably be wealthy too - wealthy enough for a comfortable upbringing anyway. They'd live within the catchment area of the greatest school on the planet. They'd be very highly educated, specialising in child psychology to maximise every decision made by that child, and so on.

So even assuming homosexuality is an imperfection, it's still perfectly possible - downright probable in fact - to be a better parent than a heterosexual couple.

The Bible clearly says do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Homophobia is therefore against God. You're a Christian country, do you not want your children to learn Christian values?

What immigration problem?

We have an aging population, and not enough economically active people to replace them - without mass immigration, you'll have to retire later, and have a lower quality of life in retirement - and this has already started!

What's actually happening is the economy was screwed up the major banks, and by massive overspending by Labour, and was then reinforced by vampirous austerity. Immigrants provide the scapegoat, as they have done in every single recession ever. Nobody cares about immigration during a boom, yet everyone blames it during the bust.

The country is full? That's not just wrong, it's mindbogglingly wrong - the entire population of Earth can fit inside the M25, albeit standing up. Not enough affordable housing? That's not an immigration problem - that's what happens when you sell off council stock and fail to replace it. NHS suffering? Again, not an immigration problem, that's what happens when you lower your spend both in overall terms, and as a percentage of GDP compared to other European countries.

There is no immigration problem, there's just politicians playing us off against each other making sure you blame other working people instead of them.

I've been working on a game for a while, that was supposed to be released last August. Regular forum members may remember early screenshots. I'm thinking if I release it this August I can say "Ah, but I didn't say which August!"

So, not much sun this year.

It's highly improbable that you'll have a monitor that supports only two resolutions. It's more likely you've got an OS that filters your options aggressively.

Generally, you're presented with a bunch of presets determined to be "safe" by cross matching your monitors preferences with your graphics adapters preferred modes. This is almost always far less than you can actually use. I'm not sure if Windows has something to deal with other resolutions, but in Linux, xrandr will generally let you use a whole lot more resolutions than you're presented with in the GUI.

Most of my traffic comes from my personal website (*). A personal website, by definition, is crap nobody is supposed to be interested in, because it's personal and nobody knows more than 150 people (Dunbar's Number). The point is, if you write it, and update it occasionally, people will use it, no matter what it is. There are short term gains by targetting specific keywords with carefully crafted articles, but it just ain't sustainable. You can't keep it going unless you really care about it. Just write something that interests you, and spell check it to make sure you're being indexed properly.

I had a porn site for a while, and it's good money, but it's mentally exhausting. I couldn't get past the fact that those ladies might be mothers one day. You have to have a certain kind of character to run one of those things. Though this was in the days before all the tube sites, so they might not be as financially viable now.

(*) Not strictly true. Most of my traffic comes from a members site - but I have hundreds of members. If you take total traffic/number of contributors, my personal site wins hands down.

Oh, I was typing that before I saw this post.

Yeah, 960px is what everyone uses. My own designer uses that, but I provide PCSS hidden away as an advanced setting, so it can be configured per user if they want to change it.

I think you're confused - 960 pixel width is for elements on a webpage, not for your actual screen resolution. 960 is used mostly for historical reasons. It became fashionable, and nobody is quite sure why - other than that's what everybody always used since 1024x768 resolutions.

Your actual screen resolution, just use whatever looks right to you.

Traditionally, you'd have 1152x864 or 1280x1024 for a 19inch CRT screen, but LCD screens allow you to blow that out of the water, and you can have ridiculous resolutions - but the larger your resolution, the smaller your font. My TV recommends 1920x1080, but that gives me a font that's just too small, so my Raspberru Pi is set to good, old fashioned 1152x864

Cats Vs Dogs » Post #12

If you want to scare a computer repair specialist, when you take your computer to the shop telling him "I'll just be sat there smoking a cigarette, stroking my cat, watching a video on YouTube and it keeps turning off", so cats are fun for that - but they have no other species-only traits to give them a hand up.

All animals, including humans, are individuals. I like some of them, and don't like others. All animals like me though, except adult humans, and this one donkey one time.
