Has Anyone Noticed? » Post #4

There was a subtle change (a reversion, actually) to the CSS, which has now been changed back. I don't know if he's liking the reversion, or it being back to how it was.

Edit, now there's also a counter, I didn't see the counter yet. I thought Nikorj was being sarcastic, but he's not. The CSS must have changed while they were doing it - I did notice that bit yesterday.

Oh for crying out loud.

Will you stop copy pasting exactly the same post into every single thread you ever post in.

You're a very clever man with a huge penis, everyone loves you, you're wonderful. Happy now?

We get it, now shut up.

They've done some things that have, historically, been the beginning of the end for cookie cutter Paid To... sites. They haven't actually done anything wrong, they're just operating in a seedy industry and became guilty by association.

It'll pass, and the hysteria will be over by March or April.

Everyone thinks Greece is going to be awesome, you get your expectations up before you go, and when you arrive, well, there isn't a single T-Bird or Pink Lady in sight.

When are they due back to normal??

Depends. I'm missing nearly a thousand - but the posts are still there.

count() can be expensive, so generally speaking, the cheapest way to do it is to build the count once a day, or once a week, and read/write to/from a cache inbetween. One would generally expect to find their post count being corrected at the end of the day, or the end of the week.

But nobody except Clixsense can answer that question with any more authority than "Well, if I wrote the forum software..."

In fairness, in my tradition, the notification for the beginning of the end of the world is three roosters sounding to warn us. You can't ignore the mundane events, you just have to be wrong a lot.

Quote:the longevity gap between rich and poor Americans has been widening sharply.

I agree with the point you're trying to make, but I think you're using the wrong figures to make it. These are both outliers on the bell curve.

What's the gap like ignoring the bottom 1% and top 1%?

What's the gap like in a moderate country?

The US is quite mad compared to the rest of the world, and Scandinavia much saner than anywhere else. You will get extreme inequality in the US, and extreme equality in Scandinavia.

Figures from a more moderate country would probably give a better world sized picture. What's the gap like between rich and poor in France or Germany? They seem like places that'd be right in the middle of the bell curve.

There was some kind of issue where posts were being deleted in bulk. We don't know what it was unless they tell us - could have been something as simple as getting a < and a > the wrong way round, all the way up to a deliberate attack.

Whatever the cause, the result was posts were being deleted, and they closed it while they fixed it.

The messed up bit is that there's a lot of truth in this, and the conspiracy theorists have gone batshit insane with it, and now anyone who understands the problems is dismissed as insane by association.

Terminator isn't the problem. That's a hypothetical problem for later. We're not saying this is coming, we're saying we need to think about it before it does because there is a continuum of advances all the way up to a real AI, and they raise ethical, moral, and social questions at every step.

As I said earlier, the "internet of things" is laughably broken. Right now, it relies on "petty criminal" for maliace. We're very, very close to "minor bug" causing mayhem.

Remember the olden days when you had the same make of telly in the kitchen and the living room, and turning one over with the remote turned the other over too?

Imagine that, but with your gas.

Yeah, that's the song that introduced me to Red Gum. I was playing The Band Played Waltzing Matilda and my Aussie mate said it reminded her of I Was Only 19.

I did that once - I got screened out of a survey, but it credited me anyway. I admit, it was tempting to keep it, but I want a Clixsense that isn't bankrupt, so I told them because the chances were it was going to do the same for everyone.

They did revert the offer - but they let me keep the daily bonus portion.

You don't get a W2 - you're an independent contractor.

There was a class action lawsuit against crowdflower last year that could have changed this, but the settlement was...unimaginative.
