Regarding advertising / referrals etc » Post #16

Quote:I'll post here on my progress - but then on my blog I put on the banner for ClixSense - is that right?

Yep. Then as you get bigger, and start getting decent traffic, add PPC ads (like adsense or AdHitz) too.

Then when you get serious traffic, you can start writing books. People like books. They like the smell of them. If you do your blog right, your book can be a collection of blog posts. All the comic strips do this - they just take the comics they've already written, and print them. If you do it via crowdfunding, you can't lose money; because you only print them if you sell enough to make it worth it.

Quote:For example - I love knitting and make all my own patterns :D Could I make a blog about that?

Yes - things like cooking, gardening and knitting tend to be surprisingly popular.

Quote:]Sorry BouldRake finding it hard to cope with the incoming replies lol, so you basically wrote about something that annoys you and you earn cash from it? And if I'm wrong sorry, just wondering!

Exactly that, yes. I rant about everything from the lack of RS232 serial interfaces on modern laptops, to people who look me in the eye, and people who say good morning. You do better from repeat visitors than you do from one shot leads, wherever they come from. And, in fact, the more unreasonable my rant, the better it does.

I just rant. I pick something to hate, and rant about it. Every post ends "And that's what makes me cross this week".

I'm not running ads at the moment, because I moved it to a new site, and never got round to adding them, but they used to be good. This is the internet, it doesn't matter what you write, somebody will read it.

Quote:My question is to those of you who are a little more experienced in this field - do you find it difficult to refer people? Does it dishearten you if you spend your hard earned cash, but don't really get any results?

Yes, and yes. But tenacity is the key. There is no secret, just bulk and tenacity.

What to do when you can´t do anything » Post #11

Stop derailing everybody's threads. The context is very obviously asking for help in increasing his earnings here, not about how to make a living a different way. And, in fact, you're both wrong. The best way to make money online is as a cam girl/boy. n00bs.

What you do, Goldenmist, is earn your badges. There are very few zero level tasks, and lots of higher level tasks. After you complete enough zero level tasks, you eventually win badges that open up the next level. This can take a while, and the trick to doing it is consistency. Log in as often as you can spare the time, and don't give in if you go a while without tasks.

Have a look in the tasks forum, there's a thread for zero level tasks that gets updated as a new one arrives. Subscribe to this thread.

Then, check the, uhm...I'm not sure - do you speak Spanish or Portuguese? Checkout whichever is the right forum and find out what other members from your country are doing.

And finally, work towards building your own downline. If you can't earn much, you can still recruit other people to earn for you.

Safelist? What do you think? » Post #6

Tue Feb 02, 2016 15:58 in General Talk

It varies. Some, you just sign up, and post once a day. Others you need credits.

Either way, don't use your primary email. I made that mistake back in the 90's...

They're like spam, but opt-in, where the trade off is everyone else gets to spam you too. Occasionally, they give you credits for actually clicking through, though these are more usually called "ads only" sites.

Clickbait works. "you won't believe what happens next!", "The reason why will make you cry", "This link will prove why you've been making money wrong your own life".

I even started to use these in my commit notes to make other developers actually read the bloody things, and it even worked there.

Safelists are low quality traffic, but you can make up for low quality traffic with bulk, so it may or may not be worth it, depending on how much hassle it is.

Daily Activity Bonus Question » Post #2

Tue Feb 02, 2016 08:59 in General Talk

Click 6 PTC ads, 20 clixgrid ads, and complete one of 2 offers, or ten tasks, or one offer and five tasks, and you get an extra 5% added to your earnings at 5am (at the moment - actually midnight server time, this will change with daylight savings). 12% if you're upgraded.

The activity extra bonus is added on if you completed the checklist, and also completed it on the two previous days. It adds an extra 2%

The ClixAddon extra bonus is added if you completed the checklist, and also ran the toolbar for at least one hour. It also adds an extra 2%

As you're in the UK, you can use the one click offers at OfferToro to earn the bonus daily, even when there are no videos or surveys.

What is the Daily Checklist Bonus?

Dead Pixels » Post #3

Tue Feb 02, 2016 07:33 in General Talk

You can't. Dead pixels are dead, that's why we call them dead pixels. You can only fix stuck pixels, but these are Red, Green, or Blue, not Black.

There are standards though. Each grade of monitor has a maximum number of dead pixels it is allowed to contain. I'm not sure what these limits are off the top of my head, but if your screen exceeds the limits for your grade of monitor, and you're still under warranty, the manufacturer has to replace it.

building new or repairing laptops » Post #6

Never moved it, not even once. Those things were worth like $5000 in today's money, you didn't want to risk it. I heard stories of people trying to get through customs with them, and having to demonstrate what they were, but me, I was just a kid - I couldn't lift it even if I wanted to.

We weren't wealthy mind you, we just knew the right people. I got a lot of gear for free over the years when offices upgraded their kit. That was the best thing about the old days when Moore's law was in full swing. Everything was useless for work, but still amazing for the home within a couple of years of being released.

My first "portable" computer was an Osborne 1, which weighed in at 10.7kg. It had a whopping 4MHZ CPU and a gargantuan 64 whole kilobytes of RAM. As devices got smaller and smaller, I picked it up as I went along. I didn't sit down and learn it all from scratch, so I can't really even estimate how long it will take to learn.

But if you're undeterred, go for it. It can be hard, but it can also be rewarding.

You can't build a laptop.

I can build a laptop, but I've got thirty years experience.

Repairing laptops is easier than building them, but not much cheaper than just buying one. The problem is, most parts are all integrated, and seemingly simple fixes often require replacing an entire board. It's only really worth it if you can buy a job lot of several of the same model of laptop. If you get an ebay ad of "6 exactly the same laptops, spares or repair", you can normally get two or three working laptops out of it. If you buy one, and try to buy parts, it's normally more hassle than it's worth.

If you're building your own, do yourself a favour and at least start with a desktop.

I haven't got a problem with the system. Yes, it's a tad dubious, but as much as they feign it when things go wrong, everyone knows what they're doing. It's not like you're mugging old ladies - you're mugging people who are trying to mug you.

It's just this particular advert.

I wish I could quote the whole book, but I'll restrain myself to two paragraphs.

Quote:
Six-thirty was clearly a preposterous time and he, the client, obviously hadn't meant it seriously. A civilised six-thirty for twelve noon was almost certainly what he had in mind, and if he wanted to cut up rough about it, Dirk would have no option but to start handing out some serious statistics. Nobody got murdered before lunch. But nobody. People weren't up to it. You needed a good lunch to get both the blood-sugar and bloodlust levels up. Dirk had the figures to prove it.

Did he, Anstey (the client's name was Anstey, an odd, intense man in his mid-thirties with staring eyes, a narrow yellow tie and one of the big houses in Lupton Road; Dirk hadn't actually liked him very much and thought he looked as if he was trying to swallow a fish), did he know that 67 per cent of all known murderers, who expressed a preference, had had liver and bacon for lunch? And that another 22 per cent had been torn between either a prawn biryani or an omelette? That dispensed with 89 per cent of the threat at a stroke, and by the time you had further discounted the salad eaters and the turkey and ham sandwich munchers and started to look at the number of people who would contemplate such a course of action without any lunch at all, then you were well into the realms of negligibility and bordering on fantasy

Barely needs a citation. Who else could it be?

Might want to add a feature request for WebRTC. Chat has been rejected in the past, but WebRTC is a bit different - it's not a chat service. Your browser does that chatting. The service offered by service providers (ie, from Clixsense's point of view) it's a glorified address book.

Chat hasn't been rejected in principle, it's been rejected because of bandwidth, the need for moderation, and spam - which are all issues WebRTC solves.

Not sure what happens with new members now. I imagine you get your 1c payment at the point everyone else gets the 'add to pending cashout' bit removed. Payments come - generally - within 48 hours of that, though it's been a tad more for a few people.

On the plus side, this is the last time you'll have to piss about. There are no cheques to verify, or micropayments to accept after this one.

WARNING ADFIVER IS STEALING YOUR DATA » Post #7

See Directive 2013/40/EU. The problem is, it's pretty badly worded. It is the intent that this behaviour is illegal, but nine tenths of the law is hiding defendants in ambiguous phrases,

Anywhere else in the world, dunno.

You should use any extension until you've read it. It's trivial (as this thread shows - I know there's only one line of code, but it's an abortion) to steal anything you like if you can get someone to install software to do it on purpose. They must give you the code to install an addon - this is a consequence of the architecture, and one of the major difference between "addon" and "plugin". There's no excuse not to do it.

For what it's worth, and since this is the Clixsense forum, the Clixsense addon is fine, it's basically a glorified curl wrapper.
