Ok. So you just purchased it but didn't download it.

Yes, don't proceed with the installation immediately because then the installer will be automatically removed and you won't be able to create a disc.
First create the disc and then proceed with the installation. Also you might like to keep a copy of the InstallESD.dmg file (Lion installation file) which is around 3.74 GB on you Hard drive for future use (in case you lose the disc or it is destroyed. You can create another disc with this file then).

So right now you are downloading Lion 10.7.2 right?

Also go to sleep and have some rest as its already past 3 am. These installations/backups are a head-ache and I really get annoyed doing all these.

I'd like to ask you one question. You said you purchased Lion back in July. So you downloaded it from the MacApp store. So where is that downloaded file ?
Do you have it on you computer or did you double click that to initiate the installation ?

I think after downloading, it will install directly. You might have to click "Next" or "I agree" , etc.
And it won't be there in the Applications Folder.

Like I said, use Lion (which you installed over SL) for about 2 weeks and get used to it. I wouldn't suggest you to do a clean install immediately.

Just want to add one more thing here. Lion is not slow at all if you do a clean install. In fact, it is at par with SL and many tech forums and review sites have proved it.
If you install it over Snow Leopard, then obviously it will be slow. Majority of the users have installed it over SL, so thats why they are complaining.

No it won't over write anything over Snow Leopard but it will slow up a little although Apple won't accept this fact openly.

All your applications, photos, videos, files, in short everything will be as it is. Just that the additional features of Lion will be added automatically after the installation is complete. Like more trackpad gestures, LaunchPad, Mission Control (which replaces Spaces), auto-save feature (which I absolutely love), etc.

So nothing to worry at all. Your files will remain as they were before
But I would highly recommend a clean install. But before that I would suggest you use Lion for about 2-3 weeks and get used to the new features. I'm sure you'll find it better than Snow Leopard.

I don't have a favorite although I love Chocolate flavor.
Try Cotton Candy flavor from Baskin Robins. I don't know if you get that flavor in US but we do get it in India. And I love it

I bought my MacBook in July, just a week before Lion launched so I got it for free
And I actually burnt Lion to a DVD so now I have Snow Leopard and Lion both (on physical discs).

It took me just 40 minutes to install. Apple says you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to install Lion. Non sense. You can do a clean install too just like I did. Installing Lion over Snow Leopard made my Mac too slow and I started having the shutdown issue as I described earlier. So I did a clean install of Lion by removing Snow Leopard completely.

You will face this issue if you are downloading Lion over the internet directly when starting up. I faced that too.
I wasted nearly 12 hours seeing that message once

Download it from the MacApp Store and make a disc. Then erase Snow Leopard completely and format the HD (after backing up your files obviously) and then perform a clean install Lion from the disc.


As for bugs with Lion, I have not faced any till now. Its a massive improvement from Snow Leopard so I'd say that those who are stuck with 10.6 or lower are really missing out Lion's innovative features.

I just hate one thing about Lion. And that is the inability of removing programs from the LaunchPad

I am using Lion (10.7.2) on MacBook Pro 13.3". Its running absolutely perfect with no issues at all.

What problems are you facing?
Is it related to shutdown where the spinning gear keeps rotating and you have to shut it down forcibly by pressing the Power button for 5-6 seconds?

Another hint : Stay updated. For example - ClixSense lately opened registrations to users from Bangladesh and Turkey. So getting your ClixSense ref. link in front of those people will give you a better conversion rate

100℉ (~ 38℃) is managable for me. When it gets over 42°, it gets a bit too much to handle.
