Yeah some level of fragmentation is good, it is one of the good point of Linux.
In fact i think Win 10 is giving a good chance to GNU/Linux to incrase in popularity. People will soon start to hate them with passion. And i have never understand why a computer company never started to sell some series with Linux installed. They can decrase the price and so more sales. When you buy a brand new computer, no freedom Windows comes with it

A problem with Linux is some companies are not doing their part of job to help the Linux community (in the name of theirs economic interests). Developpers are creating thousands of distros separately instead working togethers and compile theirs ressources and knowledges. While also you can see for exemple Cannonical who i believe are using Ubuntu to promote their brand only.

Linux is free and open source, it may be the cause. Very less money to be made compared to Windows so less interest
