How much money is needed for ideal life? » Post #18

Sat Aug 27, 2022 09:09 in General Talk

and all this is due to the GREEDY, scheming real estate agents - it's not normal that a run down home that would/should normally sell for $200k-$300k, skyrocketed to $700k during pandemic, and on top of that the IDIOTS who spent that money to buy those over priced homes, eventually wake up to reality that they need to spend $150k MINIMUM to redo roof, foundation footing, electric, sewer line, etc, now nobody can afford buying a house other than the very wealthy.
Once upon a time property value increased by 2-4% year to year, NOW it's CRAZY !!! you see 10-25%, this is crazy insane - and home owners THINK that this is a good thing, but they quickly find the hard reality when they come to sell, sure they will get more money, way more - BUT selling a home at a high cost comes with its risks - even with proper home inspection, you are likely to run into new owners who eventually find hidden defects - ALL homes DO have them, no exception, all it takes is for new owners to do remodel jobs to uncover those, and then they send you a letter of notice forcing you to cover the expenses, OR they sue you. The higher the value of sale, the more likely you will run into problems later on - unless you sell the house with an as-is clause, at lower value, which is still over priced and inflated, and even as-is is not 100% fool proof, you would still need to disclose defects. Any person of age / retired, elderly who sell their property should really consider the as-is clause to avoid headaches. There were stories back then where a couple sold their house to go live in another house or apartment, and 17 years later they got sued from new owners who uncovered a major defect when they redid their basement - the concrete slab was bowing and they found pyrite - total cost of repairs about $120k-$200k some repairs required the whole house to be lifted, soil decontaminated and foundation footers enforced - that is a MAJOR hidden defect, and even if the new owners were NOT aware of this, they are liable, as in Canada, there is the legal warranty clause, any seller must guarantee the working state of an item for a reasonable life cycle - so they won, and the old owners had to pay - kinda wished they did not sell.

So yeah imagine, now with crazy high property and labour costs, you would now pay literally $300k-$400k for these repairs, and this is something you cannot uncover during a home inspection unless they tear down the whole house

Once upon a time when houses hear sold for 90k-$100k, that was less of a problem, you could repair cracks in your foundation for $1k. NOW............repairing a single damn crack costs you $10k or more per feet !!!

Thirteen Lives (movie) » Post #3

valerie wrote: Ron Howard movie on Prime, free over here. Really good movie. It’s about the 13 boys trapped in a cave and they called a few divers from Britain. 5 ot of 5 stars.

That's it ? It sure sounds boring  Here is the complete ACTUAL description, oh yeah maybe 13 is your lucky number but it's actually 12 boys :P

"In the true story of Thirteen Lives, twelve boys and the coach of a Thai soccer team explore the Tham Luang cave when an unexpected rainstorm traps them in a chamber inside the mountain. Entombed behind a maze of flooded cave tunnels, they face impossible odds. A team of world-class divers navigate through miles of dangerous cave networks to discover that finding the boys is only the beginning." Actually it's 12 boys and 1 coach

Now THAT long description sounds more like it. 2h29 yes it is also available in Canada, and that's because this is an Amazon Prime ORIGINAL - It has a viewer rating of 7.8 and released in 2022.

Will add this to the long list of stuff to watch :D Oh and a TRUE STORY too, which is nice.

Arvind9 wrote: I like this topic, nowdays people see how much you have and how they can get a piece of it there is nothing to loose if one gets something good or else its a no loss situation

Not only money, they want a piece of your money and your willy, if you only have willy and no money, tough luck, but if you have money and no willy, that's fine - you just uncovered the world of gold digging, that is quite rampant in many parts of the world now - and it's not just about marriage, we all know that is a big scam to begin with since it IS entirely based on money - proof of concept, you might hear about some very young women with very very old blokes, say 29 year old female with a 79 year old git, now I'll let you do the math there  BUT this gold digging applies to friendships too, here's the deal - you figure pretty f***ing fast who are your true mates - because when they bloody need something or your help, you are king - but the day you need something from them - or you are in the dumps or situation bad for you, they abandon you like a piece of trash abandoned in the back alley - betrayal goes in both sense, relationship and friendship - so the golden rule in life - trust nobody but yourself, and if you spend your money spend it wisely, I don't wanna more for the "sensitive" readers out there but just read my mind

Now as to how much money you need, well with 8% inflation yearly, maybe 10%, you will need 10 times more money in 10 years than you do today. Once upon a time you could get by in this country with $20k if you were a wise shopper, single and did not require luxury. TODAY, if you want to rent vermin infested ghetto, 1 room, you would need to cough up over $1k/month rent and that is the worst case situation - if you want a house, even a run down old 100 year old home that needs $200k repairs, get ready to pay $700k MINIMUM for the trashiest house of that you will pay $8k property tax every year. You literally would need MILLIONS here by the time you retire to live SOMEWHAT barely. Nobody in this sh** hole can rely only on Canadian old age pension which is around $670 and provincial pension, you WILL need extra streams from work pensions and RRSP (401k equivalent) of that you will still pay taxes - here in this country you get rear ended whilst you work, and rear ended whilst retired.

Well you should run for politics, that would be your dream job - you get to rob society blind without breaking the law :P

and in worst case scenario if you manage to get kicked out, you get parting gifts and a generous life pension that can support you, your family and many generations. That's why smart criminals study and work their way up in these positions - robbing banks and petty theft is for amateurs

P.S. Speaking of robbing banks, make sure you do it right (p.s. tongue in cheek comment :P) Watch all seasons of Money Heist on Netflix, you might like that genre.

yeah today that is science fiction because who adheres to that anyway, though the "till death do us part" has a new meaning in 2022 - it simply means "whoever kills one another first" ...well at least in this part of the world.

So till murder do us part :P But you are 100% right, marriage is one of the biggest commitments and decisions you will take in your life, you have to think 100 times first, preferably sober :P I know in some countries divorce is a complicated process, in Philippines for example, it's not like America where you can buy your divorce paper at the Dollarama or through vending machines :P OR you can get divorced in vegas, yeah that's a new trend too !

Imagine you are married for 50 years , you kiss your partner in dark , next day you are with friends and say , holly molly I did kiss and have sex with elephant last nigh but do not remember going to zoo last night

Dark humour, I love it  That's not as bad as being married for 25 years until one day after a drunk night out, your "female" wife, tells you that SHE was a HE, now THAT is a party spoiler right there  Though nowadays for some it might not actually be a spoiler, for some it might be a turn on actually if you are into that sort of thing, but let's leave those stories for reddit :P

R.I.P. Minimum Wage.........tasman1 » Post #2

If I didn't know better and were to, you know, wear a tin foil hat, I'd say this is good precursor to a one world order and rationing - we will all become slaves to the higher power and in return get a very limited ration of food and bare minimum supplies, no más. The whole road is paved to completely eliminate the middle and low class, it's slavery on a global scale this time that is in the process. and the delusional here on this part of planet who believe that the Fed raping the economy with its tightening monetary policies and interest hikes, will manage to bring back inflation to its target 2%, well a rude awakening will happen eventually, stocks will likely plunge by up to 50% before 2023 year end, once investors finally wake the F up and understand that inflation is now here to stay, you cannot bring inflation the F down to 2%, when companies are increasing salaries, giving in to demands for raises, etc, you cannot just demote people and their salaries - Inflation WILL go down, but prices will never go back down pre-pandemic, they will demain high af - now the goal would be to keep year to year inflation close to 2%, this will likely take a few more years, OR it can take a year but not without the cluster f*ck process of destroying economy first, and plunging into a recession that could last a year or two solid. What is happening in other countries is insane - Keep in mind there are people who are gaining from inflation - if you have a good amount of money you can get locked 5 year GICs with monthly interest payments (sort of a residual income) for rates close to 5% Still better than standard bank accounts - the stock markets will likely be volatile for the next few years, 2022 will definitely be a negative return, along with 2023.

Why do humans ACT first and THINK later, it's a shame that a single 3 letter word can DESTROY a life - males are too gullible, and so are females, so it's a mutual bad decision taken by 2 parties - AND what's worse is that people make the same mistake - some people have no problems bragging that they married and divorced 5 times, no problem, guess some people have a lot of money and time to WASTE. I guess people have wax in their bloody ears or don't understand the meaning of I DO and YES, marriage is like when you sign up but don't read the terms of service  I guess people don't read the fine print - or they are a lot of thick tools who don't get the meaning of "till DEATH do us part" or "for better or worse", I guess people just imagine that they will always be happy together - boy do they get a reality check later, it's a sham that people get that reality check after bringing children in the world, then being forced to live with someone you don't love and shag on the side but pretend to be a loving family just to hide true life from the kids, who will anyways later in life find out the truth about the pitfalls of relationships - and kids nowadays find out very early, BUT they still make the same ******** mistakes - getting married young, getting pregnant at 14, getting pregnant and daddy unknown, etc.

Wow reading all the stories above makes one wonder, why the bloody hell do people marry in the first place and have kids - THEN people get "STUCK" being in an unhappy marriage just for the sake of the children - this should never even get to that point - before having children people should WAIT longer - you usually can tell if you get along with someone and "compatible" when you live with one another for MANY YEARS, and go through good AND bad times together, if you can brave the bad times as a couple, (remember the bullshit people utter, for better or worse) most of the time people meet and marry under the best scenarios - but do they go through the "worse" part as a couple ? So yeah people are attracted by looks, lust, marry quickly, f*ck around and have kids (wanted or otherwise) THEN they realise the mistake after the fact - it's better to avoid marraige if one is not ready to accept that things will not always be "convenient" - and having children is a bloody responsibility a LIFE TIME one because you still keep worrying for them even as adults, though not always financially - but still - you hear so many stories of people stay together just for the kids - so why not avoid the situation of a marriage sham to begin with - The thing is, people marry for all the wrong reasons, looks, money, with a side of humping - Where does TRUE LOVE fit in all of this ? True love can brave the storms - FAKE love isn't good for sh*t.

If anybody is wondering what is the ultimate job that is recession, depression and war proof, there are 3 jobs available. 1) Politician (a.k.a legal criminal) 2) Funeral Home owner 3) Divorce lawyer. For #3 you actually need experience and studies, but the payoff is huge  For #1 you need no experience other than being a good bullshitter and love money. For #2 you need to be comfortable working around dead people :P

Moving to a cold place has its advantage, you trade away humidity and high heat with nice cold weather - and you don't have to deal with wasps, hornets, ants, termites, scorpions or whatever weird insects you have over there  It seems insects are evolving rapidly, they are becoming more resistant to bug sprays, more sturdy, now spiders run faster, they run, they JUMP, even the small ones, insect population is growing rapidly - I mean insects represent 35-40% of world's mass, too bad that insects are not smart enough to stay outside, they don't get arrested for breaking and entering :D
