and some will get extremely fat / morbidly obese but have normal blood tests, it's all about genetics. I guess each case needs to be evaluated, as not everyone is equal - some people do eat a lot and don't gain weight, but they also are very active. There are people who are inactive and eat a lot and don't gain weight, that is quite unusual though, it would mean that their resting metabolism is very high - but watch out, thin does not mean healthy necessarily - some people who are thin may be diabetic too - some people produce little insulin, and insulin is the fat hormone too, some people gain weight easily - BUT it is not the quantity, it's the type of foods - if you are eating the type of foods that spike your insulin you are promoting fat storage, your body is optimised to store fat - if you east foods low on the glycemic index, you will likely maintain your weight - it's all about insulin and glucose control - it's a vicious circle, you get an insulin crash, you are hungry , you eat more. Some people may appear to eat a lot, but they don't do so every single day.
Sooner or later you WILL get fat if you eat more than your body expends in energy, nobody gets a free pass all their life - it's all about the quality not the quantity. You ca be eating little of the wrong foods and gain weight too.
I'd say most people who are obese or morbidly obese got there through food habits - YES for whatever reasons, depression, sadness, food is usually used to compensate for lack of affection, love, and other things, however the main theme is food - and yes there are certain medical conditions and medication that make you gain weight, or stall weight loss, but not to the point where you can weigh 600-900 pounds - but it's a vicious circle, once you develop that food habit, you want more more more food to keep up with your stomach and cravings, this is why people with Obesity find it hard to lose weight - they have developed a bad habit, they are likely very much insulin resistant, and they must resolve the SOURCE of their habit first THEN the food problem. That's why people have the misconception that obese people should just eat less, well yeah, that's only part of the deal, it's more complex than that. Our body is optimised for storage........it's much easier to gain than to lose - the more fat you are the faster you can lose weight, BUT your body quickly downregulates your metabolism so you stall and cannot lose all the weight - when you start eating normal again it takes far long for the body to upregulate - your body was primed for survival and so it favours storing reserves than burning them quick - Most people who are Obese aim at fast weight loss - this is why they can never lose enough weight - only SLOW, but steady weight loss and small changes, will make a big difference long term.
Yeah some people have crazy metabolisms for sure - Some people eat normally and gain weight, what they need is a GOOD doctor and endo to read their test results, there could be easy clues as to why - their insulin levels, their glucose, their levels of Leptin, etc. In America and in the UK Obesity is an epidemic, I'm sure it is quite the same in Canada too - people are eating processed foods and drinking soda
I've had that crazy metabolism at some point too, but I was active too - the #1 fuel for the body is glucose, our body can also use fat, but it is optimised for glucose FIRST, if you consume it, it becomes available for energy, if you don't use energy, it is then stored in your fat cells through insulin , ideally once our muscle glycogen storage is full, our liver being the biggest store for most people.
It's not all about doom genetics - sometimes your hormones can be messed up, it can be fixed - but most people do it wrongly - they just go to the doctor and the doctor says "eat less" - They don't seem to teach that in Med School, how to assess weight problems on an individual basis - nope - it's easier to just order bullshit tests, run the bill and make hospitals rich and shareholders happy rather than giving optimal patient care.
